The first major telefantasy casualty of the US TV season* is Eastwick, axed by ABC after ratings sunk below 3.5 million. The show was a TV version of the same book which inspired the movie The Witches Of Eastwick, but was quickly dubbed Desperate Housewitches by critics. Although the show centred on three witches, the producers were always keen to play down comparisons with Charmed. Ultimately, the biggest difference between the two shows was that Charmed lasted eight seasons.
* Unless you count Defying Gravity, but it's arguable whether that began as part of the Fall season.
