Dragon Tattoo sequel gets Se7en screenwriter

We haven’t heard much from Sony’s prospective sequel to The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo for a while, but there has been some movement with the appointment of a brand new screenwriter.

David Fincher’s Se7en collaborator Andrew Kevin Walker has apparently joined The Girl Who Played With Fire to rewrite the script, originally drafted by Steve Zaillian.

Whether that means that Fincher himself will return to direct the sequel remains to be seen, but it does seem like an indicator that the director is still involved in the project in some capacity.

The problem for Sony lies in Fincher’s increasingly busy schedule, alongside that of star Daniel Craig. With the latter’s Bond commitments likely to eat into much of 2014, it had been suggested that his character be written out in order to focus on Rooney Mara’s Lisbeth Salander.

If Sony is hoping to bring back all the original components of the first episode, they’d likely have to begin shooting in early 2014, or else wait until the following year, meaning an even longer gap between films. Decisions decisions…
