Riot Games isn’t the only developer acknowledging the
Chinese Year of the Dragon – AreaNet’s Founder and President Mike O’Brien
posted a blog on the game’s website in celebration, announcing some exciting news
about the developer's upcoming MMORPG Guild Wars 2. The first bit is that it is,
indeed, upcoming; while we originally assumed that it would be released in 2012
(and were confident enough to put it in our list of the 100 Most Anticipated Games of 2012), it wasn’t totally super officially confirmed until O’Brien's totally super official post today.
O’Brien also talked about the game’s beta, which will give eager gamers a chance to dip their toe into Tyria's waters a little early (as long as they're willing to report bugs and such). Guild Wars 2's first closed
beta test wrapped up just recently, and the developer is ready to start growing
the pool of testers in the coming months. Starting in February, AreaNet will
start inviting select members of the press to participate, and the size will grow from then on.
“In March and April we’ll aggressively ramp up the size of
our beta test events so that many of you will have a chance to participate,” O’Brien
posted. “And of course, this all leads to the release of Guild Wars 2 later
We're making sure that we're on the list to be in line for the press beta next month so we can bring you all the Guild Wars 2 news you can handle - and maybe a little more.
