I think that every company should do the same that CD Projekt RED said and did with Witcher. FREE DLC. And, I quote what they said: "This is also a way of saying 'thank you' to the people who decided to buy our game". I find that incredibly awesome.

Just a quick heads up, the original Fullmetal Alchemist anime did not cover all 7 (they forgot Sloth and Pride, as I recall). Brotherhood, on the other hand, got in all of the homonculi. Perhaps you were referring to that. Also, binding of isaac.
  • LordRetro - February 13, 2014 4:21 a.m.

Incorrect. All 7 are in the original. SPOILER Sloth is King Bradley's secretary the shape changer who was created when the Elric brothers tried to bring back their mother. Pride is King Bradley himself who has his homunculus mark under his eyepatch and isn't revealed until the final few episodes.

Greed: When someone pushes "skins" like it's a big thing, that it said. It's a friggin' costume! Give me story add ons and maps please. Lust: Nothing wrong with Boobs, most men love them and some chicks too. Women are beautiful creatures and men funny looking.

To be fair, Quiet's outfit in Metal Gear Solid 5 doesn't consist of much because she supposedly uses her skin tone as natural camouflage in Afghanistan.

I think Kojima just has a fucked up psyche. All his games have some weird shit in them, and I think he's just getting old and wants boobs, but can't get them and won't admit it. So he keeps making things up.

True, though this is one of the few times the reason for a female character's appearance actually made a certain degree of sense, as opposed to EVA just waltzing around with her tits out for 90% of MGS3 despite the fact she was wearing a fully functional jumpsuit with a working zipper and riding a fucking motorcycle around in half her scenes. Not to mention she gets fucked up pretty bad in the final scene, and still decides to run around in the jungle with the front of her suit unzipped with an open wound in her abdomen (I seriously think EVA was an exhibitionist or some shit, because I just kept WHY'ing every time she showed up)

If games cost as much as they did back in the 90's, you would get "full complete games." Games cost MILLIONS of dollars to make. Most games HAVE to have DLC just to turn a profit, because that little $60 sale wont cut it. If you want the quality and caliber of the games we have today to continue, you either fork over for the DLC, or you get used to paying $90-$100 per game....
  • larkan - December 9, 2013 11:15 p.m.

Or, we could pay half if they cut out DRM on all platforms. We ARE paying $100 for most games in order to get the "complete" experience without half the content cut out (Battlefield, COD, Borderlands 2, anything with a season pass). As far as quality, we're paying $60 right now to beta test most games at launch, so you're saying spending an extra $30 would increase quality? I doubt it.
  • zombi3grim - December 10, 2013 1:25 p.m.

No, you're paying $60 for the complete experience. If you want EXTRA, (more maps, weapons, OPTIONAL story content) you can purchase it. You label every game with a season pass as having half the content cut out. I've NEVER bought a season pass for any CoD game, and I can still play on all my favorite maps that shipped with the game, and have a blast with every feature the game has. If I LIKE the other maps, I buy them. If not, I dont have to. And it has nothing to do with DRM. Digital rights is another beast entirely and doesnt even fit in the context of this conversation. Nice try throwing something else to bitch about in here though....

Pride: Yeah, that was a major problem here, but for devs, I can understand since one false move can cost them their job. Sloth: Oh God, yes, totally agree. However, MANY indie devs screw norms and make their own ideas and concepts. It's true that many copy other games, but at least several have the decency to add their own twist. Greed: THIS SHOULD BE BANNED... FOREVER! DLC is borderline like false advertising. I honestly don't know exactly who's at fault here, but devs should get enough money to make a complete game WITHOUT resorting to DLC... unless it feels like an expansion, not a missing piece of the puzzle. Wrath: One word: ignorance... show it once, get bashed and hated for it for the rest of your life. I asked to 5, not just 1, FIVE BioWare employees about the Mass Effect 3's ending uproar and they actually were surprised by it because to them, most gamers don't give a damn about endings... until ME3 came out. They realized that day that the fanbase loved the story and wanted a proper ending, which they then rewrote and offer it for free. Then again, they weren't prepare for that... any dev wouldn't have been prepared for that, come to it. Gluttony: Huh... it's almost as if you could combine it with Greed, because it's often similar. Sports games? Why not make DLC patches if it's on the same console? CoD? DLC expansions would work. Lust: Fan-service, sex sells... not the most noble of reasons, but that's a harsh reality. Beautiful visuals will excuse the crappiest and most repetitive of gameplay everytime... Envy: Again, that's strikingly similar to Sloth and Greed, as in to make a cheap copy so it could sell better than the original. I'm surprised that you mentioned multiplayer for FPS, but mentioned another tedious trend with your previous example of Yaiba... ZOMBIES. EVERYONE WANTS TO CASH IN WITH ZOMBIES!!! If sex doesn't sell, zombies will... terrific... Anyway, good list there bud ^_^

You contradict yourself with Gluttony and Greed. Thought you should know.
  • gilgamesh310 - December 6, 2013 5:41 a.m.

I don't think gluttony can apply to the consumption of products. It needs to be food. If not then there really isn't any difference between it and greed. Also, Lightning is not a strong female character. She's always been very poorly written.
  • Arobadope - December 6, 2013 11:03 a.m.

In this day and age I guess Lightning passes for "strong female lead" I am sure w/e her face is that does the VG tropes series has a cardboard cut out of Lightning in her room.
  • gilgamesh310 - December 6, 2013 11:27 a.m.

For me a character simply being badass does not constitute as strong. They need to be someway well developed and characterized. I don't think the term "strong female lead" should even exist. A strong character is just a strong character. Elizabeth, Ellie and even Clementine are strong characters because they are well written and they just happen to be ladies.
  • Arobadope - December 6, 2013 6:30 p.m.

    I agree 100%
  • Kidhaze - December 7, 2013 12:40 a.m.

The term simply exists because there is a low ratio compared to male protagonist, so eventually the term should fade away as more devs make their main characters women. To be honest though Lighting is a strong character both mentally, even though her character is just thrown at you as a "female warrior" she still has room for definition. Lighting returns is coming out in February after all.
  • gilgamesh310 - December 7, 2013 5:15 a.m.

I suppose so. I just found Lightning to be very bland in FF 13. Nilin from Remember Me is a much better character. She's very strong and badass but there is also a lot more to her character.
  • zombi3grim - December 8, 2013 9:41 p.m.

Greed is about possessing and keeping. Gluttony is about consuming. You can consume more then food. You can be a glutton for money and just spend spend spend, consuming it in the process.
  • shawksta - December 5, 2013 8:15 p.m.

Great article, there were some things that seemed shy, but overall it was fantastic zach. DLC can be used for many ways, but it seems popular for people to rip on it in general. As for Sonic, that is stupid but, honestly i feel lives in general only exist because of Nostalgia. But saying that, only makes the lives DLC even more stupid.
