Thank you GR crew for doing coverage on the independent games. If you could it'd be great to see more articles on this area of gaming. These days I'm not really interested in a lot of the big releases as I find a lot of indie games to be more exciting. Thanks for putting me onto some good looking games and studios!

Definitely looking forward to all of these! Especially Gone Home.

A lot of these sound pretty interesting. Gone Home and State of Decay sound very much like games I'd be into and Jonathan Blow's new game sounds like it might have some potential. Gone Home in particular, as from the synopsis I am getting a "Hotel Dusk" vibe which I loved. Apologies if you already do something like this and I keep missing it, but it'd be cool to read a monthly feature on indie games. It could be a list of that month's releases or even a rundown of the best/upcoming indie games in specific genres or themes (such as survival horror, zombie, exploration, plaformers etc).

2013 is going to be a fucking amazing year for games, I can't wait.
  • Darkhawk - December 15, 2012 11 a.m.

Would've been nice if you identified what platforms these games were on.

What? No Starbound? I know you couldn't fit EVERYTHING, but it is a pretty big oversight...Terraria was a pretty big success, and Starbound is pretty much the Sci-Fi sequel to it (done by one of the devs of Terraria and everything). I don't really like Permadeath type games myself. I never use it in Minecraft for sure. However, if the game is something that can be completed in under two hours and has a lot of random encounters or randomized environments, it might work.

Though I know technically it MIGHT come out this year, it seems rather unlikely.

Hope the Witness comes to consoles.

Steve_Hask?? On the account page of the person credited for writing this, it says he was last online 12 years 11 months ago! :O I haven't seen an account that old in forever.

I immediately bookmarked this list when I first saw it and I hope that all or at least most of these games are actually released, because they look awesome. I can't wait to play them. Next year looks great! I'm really glad you made this list, because I wouldn't have known about basically any of these games otherwise.
  • Edias - December 12, 2012 7:30 p.m.

It is looking to be a strong year for indie games, and the list here is really just the tip of the iceberg. I hope that more people will give some of these games a chance. There are a number of indie developers out there that are just not getting the attention that they deserve.
  • ObliqueZombie - December 12, 2012 7:08 p.m.

Oh wow. There are quite a lot of great indie games coming out, and probably all under $10.
  • ChiChiRocket - December 12, 2012 6:27 p.m.

Maybe it's just me, but the increase in games with forced permadeath is a real turn off for me. I'm a guy who appreciates a good story, but if there's a fear that at any moment the whole rug could be pulled out from under me, it may cause way too much stress to even bother with it. I don't mind games where permadeath is an option. Hell, hardcore mode in Diablo 2 was great, but forcing it on me is doing nothing to make me want to delve deeper.

Couldn't agree more with you there. And is it just more, or are a lot of these first person horror/survival games??
  • shawksta - December 12, 2012 6:21 p.m.

As BladedFalcon said, this is great to raise awareness, i cant wait for next years batch of Indies, Spy Party seems very interesting and cathes my eye the most.
  • BladedFalcon - December 12, 2012 5:55 p.m.

Thank you guys for releasing lists such as these, because they help raise awareness to games that otherwise have been flying under the radar of even people that continuously play games. I admit myself one such person as I really have heard only of... 3 out of these 21 promising games. Mercenary Kings, specially, is something that is right up my alley, and I hope that it gets a PS3 release... one can hope!
  • taokaka - December 12, 2012 5:38 p.m.

Good list, I'd never heard of most of these but now I'll have to keep my eye on a few of them. Another Indie I'm looking forward to is ibb and obb.
  • Spacewolf - December 12, 2012 4:01 p.m.

Right now I'm more looking forward to next years indie games than any AAA game except maybe for the Last of Us.
