UPDATE

The official TMNT trailer from Platinum Games has now landed and wouldn't you know all the leaked facts were correct. 4 player co-op, the kind of swirling fast paced combat you'd expect from Platinum, and smart talking cel shaded shelled heroes. Mutants In Manhattan looks pretty incredible and might just be able to wash away the bad pizza smell of the new Michael Bay movie. It'll be out in summer.

ORIGINAL STORY

Poor Platinum Games - even when it tries to preempt leaks about its TMNT game with an "official leak" of its own, it just can't get out ahead. Two months since the internet sniffed out the game's existence via its officially submission to the Australian Classification Board, we're now getting our first look at TMNT: Mutants in Manhattan as screens and descriptions dribble onto its XBox product page.

The short synopsis included in the leak confirms that this game is oh-so-very Platinum: it claims you'll "battle alongside your brothers through the sewers, subways, and streets of NYC" and "unleash custom combat skills and powerful team combos to save Manhattan from the overwhelming dark forces growing in the shadows." The video above proves that further, as the Turtles make a pack of Foot clan thugs explode into chunks with their fast-moving, ominously glowing weapons. Sounds like just the sort of stuff the creators of Bayonetta and Transformers: Devastation are known for. Mentions of 4-player online co-op being part of the game are a little more surprising, though that only seems right, given it's a TMNT game.

The leak also confirms that choice Turtles villains like the piggish Bebop (who looks to be in much better shape these days), cyborg shark Armaggon, the appropriately pointy Shredder, and what appears to be some of the golem soldiers controlled by brain-in-a-jar Krang. Basically, everything that is so beautifully wrong in the TMNT world. It also promises a brand new story from Tom Waltz, one of the lead writers of the TMNT comic book, which I'll be happy about when I'm done processing a Platinum battle against a cyborg shark.

Perhaps the tastiest detail of all: the leak outs Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan for a summer 2016 release on Xbox One and Xbox 360 (and other consoles are likely too).
