PS5 price hikes are coming this week, in just a couple of days no less - and with the cheapest console running all the way up to $599, it's a serious leap. The PS5 Pro will soon cost you a whopping $899.99, after all.
These price increases come into effect on April 2 and, since the announcement last week, shoppers seem to have been filling their boots before those numbers jump up. The PS5 Slim Digital Edition has seen a 50% increase in its sales rank at Amazon, listed on the site's 'Movers and Shakers' list at position 8 in the last 24 hours (previously 12). Considering I normally see cheaper items like games and gift cards populating this page, that's a big move.
At the time of writing, the PS5 Digital, PS5 Disc, and PS5 Pro are still in stock at their previous prices at Amazon. While that might not change overnight on April 2 (this isn't our first PS5 price increase, and retailers have stuck to older rates while they clear stock for a few days after deadline), there's no telling how long it will take for new MSRPs to appear.
PS5 | From $499 at Amazon
All three consoles are still in stock at their regular selling prices at Amazon right now, though things seem to be moving fast. The PlayStation Portal, for example, is already out on these shelves, though is still available at Best Buy.
Disc: $549 at Amazon
Pro: $749 at Amazon
Portal: $199.99 at Best Buy
The PlayStation Portal is also seeing its handheld price increase and it seems to be moving even quicker than the main console. The remote player is currently out of stock at Amazon, and availability looks to be limited by zip code at Best Buy. The $199.99 device will jump up to $249.99 in the US when the rest of the lineup moves further up the ladder on Thursday.
Sony announced these price jumps in a blog post last week, and they're the largest so far. The PS5 originally launched at $399 for the Digital Edition and $499 for the disc model. Since then it's crept up the scale on both sides of the Atlantic, before resting at $549.99 / $499 last year.
PS5 prices are jumping between 18% and 25%, with the largest increase going to the PS Portal and the smallest hitting the regular disc console. Still, that 20% jump represents an additional $150 for a Pro model.
