Boulder Dash heads for handhelds

Thursday 3 May 2007
Retro classic Boulder Dash is heading for DS and PSP with the cleverly-titled Boulder Dash Rocks, complete with a new look. Now, although we haven't seen a diamond prospector in the flesh, we don't reckon they look like aliens (see below). Never mind though - at least Rockford's big head will make him look like that classic sprite we used to love on the Spectrum.

The first game started life as a home console game in 1984 and was ported to arcades shortly afterwards when the addictive gameplay was spotted as being a potential money-making device. Fortunately for us, that compulsive core gameplay and movement will remain unchanged, although there will be extra modes added to make the most of each console's capabilities.

There's a lot to be said for a good, simple gameplay idea and Boulder Dash should fit both handhelds neatly when the game arrives late this year.
