Shapiro (1906-1989) was indie film mogul man responsible for the distribution of The Evil Dead as well another horror classic, Night of the Living Dead .Legend has that he actually suggested the name The Evil Dead . As a founder of the Cannes Film Festival, he was also instrumental in allowing Sam Raimi to screen the film at the 1982 festival.

Evil Dead , the new terrifying new version of the horror classic, hits UK cinemas on 19 April. It stars Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Jessica Lucas and is directed by Fede Alvarez.
