We are used to big updates coming regularly to our favourite games nowadays - gone are the days when the game in the box was all you got. But these updates are a good thing in reality: regularly updated, refined and honed games offer incredibly deep, augmented and sharpened experiences that we can all then enjoy playing for much more than just a few hours. And now you can enjoy such an update to while away those winter hours over Christmas with a big old update to Lords Mobile - one of the most popular mobile strategy games players can jump into right now.

And some of the best and most exciting - and refreshing - updates are those large end-of-year updates. When these come around, you can usually predict it'll be exciting and add a whole whack of new and brilliant content to continue your journey, expand your empire or take on further (and newer) wars. One such update is coming to the wonderful world of Lords Mobile, the free-to-play real-time strategy mobile game enjoyed by 310 million players worldwide. It's an enormous update with refreshing and scintillating additions, augmentations and new events to enjoy over the holiday period, while offering a new way to increase the immersion into one of the most popular mobile games going.

This huge end-of-year update is multi-faceted and brings with it a range of elements to enjoy based around the Dragon Arena and Strongholds. Firstly, in the Dragon Arena, guilds will be paired for a guild-versus-guild battle. However, to win, guilds must earn points by occupying Strongholds. These Strongholds consist of Outposts, Transporters, Hot Springs, Ancient Remains, Citadels, and the such, with each one granting a different amount of points when occupied, some even granting special boosts. The Dragon Altar lies in the center of the Dragon Arena, and serves as the starting point for Caravans (though the Dragon Altar cannot be occupied itself). Players must defend these Strongholds for a whole three minutes - not long in reality, but a tense, exciting, feels-long-than-it-actually-is period when you're playing Lords Mobile - before it reaches occupied status. When it is designated as occupied, players' guilds will earn Guild Points and Solo Points. Delicious points, they make the world go round. Taking occupation of the Strongholds a step further, if a Caravan reaches a Stronghold, the player who has occupied the Stronghold will earn a ton of extra points as a bonus! Nice.

An important, and welcome, part of the update is that players will not actually lose troops in these events: wounded troops will be healed, damaged traps will be repaired, and your wall will be restored once players units, troops and armies leave the arena. No crushing, lose-all-your-work kind of scenarios here. After each round ends, the guild that has earned the most points will be awarded the victory - though both guilds will win prizes and extras based on the specific outcome. And any Dragite won in the event can be exchanged for items in the Dragite Shop - going as far as the likes of a new hero!

If you're not already on board with Lords Mobile, this update marks a terrific time to enthusiastically, download, jump in, and immerse yourself in all the guild-orientated, mobile strategy gaming goodness it offers. Lords Mobile melds together several gameplay functions, types and mechanics to build its game. Smashing together real-time strategy and world-building mechanics with open-space RPG elements the game is broad and varied. These interwoven gameplay parts ensure the game's several modes are well-supported and downright ridiculously enjoyable. Perhaps the most notably fun and engaging part of Lords Mobile - being a mobile game played by millions are the PVP-battles where players develop their own base, build an army and attack enemy bases, destroying them, and seizing the resources and capturing enemies where possible. Devilishly wicked and exciting stuff. In a world where monsters and other world bosses periodically appear in the kingdom map, and are open for attack and steal resources from, the world feels alive and exciting. Players can also participate in contests: these are capture-the-flag-esque events where the goal is to reach, occupy and seize a map location. This will earn players' bounties and bonuses for their profile as well as the guild they are part of.

This update, on top of the glorious world and gameplay of Lords Mobile, shows there has never been a better time to embrace the game on your phone or tablet. So if you want an exciting game, with an imminent and blisteringly exciting end of year update coming, that you can play anywhere, now is the time to jump in! In Lords Mobile, danger and opportunity are around every corner, and risk and reward are never far away, so be bold - fortune favours the brave. Build your guild, your empire and crush your enemies and drain their resources, ensuring you can grow stronger and stronger.
