Lord of the Rings Battle For Middle-earth II

LOTR: Battle for Middle-earth II - multiplayer hands-on, part 2

Four new ways to crush your opponents, Tolkien-style

The third style of match, Resource Race, offers another twist. Here, fighting with your opponents is actually optional while concentrating on the home front – specifically your supply gathering – is the key. The first player to reach a preset level of money is the winner. Building the most resource farms is not always the answer, however, as you’ll need the manpower to defend each one and that costs - what else - resources. Instead, you might find extra riches by pillaging the nearby peasant towns or, in a nod to the Lord of the Rings films, using a Saruman-inspired lumber mill to tear down and burn the surrounding trees.

Above: Defending your supply farms from marauding hordes is critical to winning a Resource Race.
