Free All-Star Game downloadable content for NBA Live 08 (News)

EA Sports is offering free downloadable content for NBA Live 08 with the "NBA All-Star 2008 Pack by adidas". Included are this year's jerseys, court, and 10 new pairs of shoes made exclusively for New Orleans. The pack is available for the 360 and will be for PS3 shortly.

Today the 360 version of NBA Live 08 received the auto-update adding in Online Team Play mode which allows for up to 10 different people to take part in a single online game. The PS3 versions received this update in December.

EA sent out a news alert letting Loot Ninja know that a downloadable patch for NBA Live 08 is now available on the PS3 to enable 10 player Online Team Play. The patch will be available for the Xbox 360 later this month.

The Xbox 360 downloads that brings online team play for NBA Live 08 and online Be a Pro mode for FIFA 08 came out today. This allows for 5 on 5 play over 10 consoles. The PS3 versions of these games will get these modes later this month.

EA announced today that a NBA Live 08 videogame simulation of the entire 2007-08 NBA season predicted that the Phoenix Suns will come away winners of The Finals 2008 next June, defeating the Boston Celtics in seven games.

Halo 3 remains top selling game in US; Xbox 360 sales still rising (News)

VGChartz has just uploaded the new hard- and software sales for the week of September 30 - October 6. Not suprisingly, Halo 3 remains the top selling game in the US with an additional 562.000 copies in its second week, which brings its total to almost 3.2 million. Nintendo DS's biggest title of the year thus far, The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, debuted on second place with almost 350.000 copies. Also, NBA 2K8 on the Xbox 360 outsold NBA Live 08 on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 2 with a debut of 116.000, compared to NBA Live's 102.000 on the Xbox 360. Microsofts exclusive title Project Gotham Racing 4 debuted with just 90.000 copies in its first week.

On the hardware side, the Halo 3 effect seems to still effect the Xbox 360 hardware sales as Xbox 360 hardware numbers jumped another 6% to almost 130.000. Nintendo DS was still the top selling hardware this week, despite a 5% decline to 135.000 copies. Nintendo Wii sales dropped 2% to 95.000 as Playstation 3 numbers remained at the same level with almost 30.000 units. Check out all this weeks numbers after the jump.

EA Sports just confirmed to Gamespot that there will be a demo of NBA Live 08 on Xbox Live Marketplace. The demo will be up on Marketplace a month before the actual game will be instores, which will be on October 2. This means the demo will be released sometime in September on Xbox Live Marketplace.

No mention on a demo on Playstation Network.

EA's NBA Live cover Gilbert Arenas prefers NBA 2K series (News)

The next time EA decides to put an athlete who's an actual gamer on their NBA Live cover, it might help to have vetted him first. As Jon Robinson of IGN points out in a piece about who will replace Shaq as NBA 2K's cover athlete, Gilbert Arenas would have made sense. In a Q&A session on NBA.com last November when Arenas was asked if he plays NBA Live he answered, "No. I play NBA 2K. It's real, the NBA 2K. The other one, now ... it's too fake."

EA announced today that Gilbert Arenas will be the cover athlete for EA Sports' NBA Live 08. The company also confirmed that this year will mark the series' first appearance on Nintendo Wii and PS3, and that an Xbox 360 version is also in the works (via the nifty box art pictured to the left of this text) as anyone with a pulse would expect.

"This is a dream come true," said Arenas. "I'm a huge gamer and have been playing NBA LIVE since 1995. I never imagined that I would see my face on the cover of an EA SPORTS videogame."
