Half-Life 2: Episode Three storyline speculation

Where next for Gordon Freeman? We hazard a few educated guesses

Dr. Kleiner

The bumbling genius’ influence will be kill or cure for Earth in Episode Three. Although he’s been a benevolent old uncle to the resistance throughout the Half-Life 2 story, the news of the Borealis’ recovery brought about a binary disagreement between himself and Eli. Kleiner wants to use whatever secrets the ship holds against the Combine, whereas Eli wanted it destroyed without question for fear of its use bringing about an event as horrific as the original Black Mesa incident. Given Eli’s revealed knowledge of the G-Man and presumed greater understanding of the bigger picture, we’re highly tempted to assume that Kleiner is the misguided party.

But with Eli out of the picture, Mossman’s condition unknown and Dr. Magnussen a glory-hunting egotist, Kleiner is now Gordon’s most likely scientific influence. Our prediction? Definite conflict between Kleiner and Alyx over what could be the most pivotal decision in the story so far. As usual, the weight of responsibility will fall upon Gordon, but depending on how heated things get we might see a major fracturing of the resistance. If we were to be even more suspicious, we might even guess at secret motives on Kleiner’s part. Is his plan mere bumbling enthusiasm, or is there some Mossman-style double agentry going on? Could it even be the G-Man’s influence, assuming he isn’t on Earth’s side?

Adrian Shephard?

This one’s a definite long shot, but definitely not outside the realms of possibility. The US marine hasn’t been seen or heard of since the G-Man quarantined him at the end of the original Half-Life’s Opposing Force expansion pack, but that doesn’t mean he’s out of the picture. Just the opposite, in fact.

Shephard’s journal entries in the manuals to Opposing Force and Blue Shift make it quite clear that the G-Man was pulling his strings before the Black Mesa incident in order to make sure he was present. The G-Man also makes it quite clear at the end of the game that he personally argued to save his life, so the fact that he was subsequently detained in the same way as Gordon heavily implies that the suited pawn-collector has definite plans for him in the future.

With Barney nowhere to be seen in Episode Two and Alyx an unknown quantity, we’ll tentatively put a small amount of money down on Adrian being put back into play as back-up for Gordon at some point in Episode Three. After all, Valve have openly stated that they’d like to bring him back at some point.

Lamarr

We’ll see the comedy headcrab again, we’re absolutely sure of it. She might have been blasted skyward on the portal-killing rocket at the end of Episode Two, but headcrabs are a hardy bunch. So much so in fact, that the Combine are known to launch them into cities inside missiles for use as biological weapons. Trust us, she’s safe.

Our dream Lamarr appearance? We want to see her follow Dog’s example by dropping in (literally) to make a surprise rescue during a hairy Combine ambush. She might be safely de-beaked now, but she could more than distract any Combine trooper by trying to couple with his head during a fire-fight.

I think Valve pretty much cut all ties to the Half-Life 1 expansion packs. (even though Opposing Force was more fun than their own game) So there's supposed to be no chance of seeing Shephard.

Not that I care. Because ugh...Half-Life's plot is a bunch of vague unexplained and unatisfying nonsense that will probably never conclude. It's more hollow and pointless to follow than Lost.

There´s a good chance that G-Man is Shephard and therefore is mixed emotions towards Gordon( Shephard was supose to eliminate the scientists but maybe built some esteem for Gordon´s survival skills)Besides the time traveling and time suspention corroborates the multiple teleportions Gordon does in the beginning of Half-Life 1 right after the incident.
Maybe Gordon was set up by G-Man to take out the ones that are controling the time and space ditortions and therefore release G-Man from its owners.
Whatch out with the resonance cascade of my theory.

Maybe Valve is waiting for their next engine to be complete in order to "showoff" Episode Three. Either way, there's a lot of things to be explained as pointed here so I wouldn't expect it in 2010 even.

G-Man is the best character in the Half-Life series in my opinion

I'd just like to see Episode 3 at this point. I've given up hope on the Half Life series giving me any kind of resolution, I just want to see this chapter closed for now, so I can wet myself when Half Life 3 comes out.

Has anyone considered the possibility that the Aperture facility from Portal was the Borealis. At the end of Portal you set of some huge spatial event and that could have been what teleported the Borealis to its new location. If it was some kind of near future super tanker I see no reason it couldn’t be the facility from Portal.

Lamarr FTW!!!

But seriously though, I have no clue on what Valve is going to do. I don't think it is representative of what Valve has become, but the L4D 2 announcement could mean something is going down on the inside. Most likely it just is they had a bunch of updates to the game that couldn't have been put to the original game so they made a second.
With that said, we all know HL 2 ep. 3 is going to be epic, but how epic is my question? This article is pretty epic in itself.

I would say, that I would bet 40 dollars that Adrian Shephard will be in episode 3

Damn L4D2, I just want Episode 3 dammit!!

Who knows what the G-Man is up to. He is much like the stereotypical FreeMasons. Note the fact that his name has a G which is a symbol for freemasonry. For those who don't know Freemasons are like the Illuminati pulling the string of different things from behind the scenes supposedly.

Has anyone read the Stephen King book Insomnia?
I think G- Man could be like that, just a worker- above us but still way below the top. He keeps an air of superiority because he needs to keep his superiors existence a secret. I thinks hes more human the he's letting on
MechGyver  - 5 months 13 days ago
HOLY SHIT!!!!
@currie, you just ruined Valve´s super secret plot
yoreAtowel  - 5 months 13 days ago
CURRIE FTW. But i think that much about the g-man could be presumed. Also i dont think any of us will see hl:ep3 any time soon, infact im pretty sure valve will come out with L4D 9 (the hand is missing one thumb) before any gordon anticts.

Okay, I heard that Chell is supposed to make an appearance in Episode 3, and I agree with Rad_Bracket. If you looked around before your battle with GLaDOS there are steam pumps and air canisters in the factory-area, so why couldn't the Aperture location BE the Borealis?
