Microsoft's Gears of War 2 for the Xbox 360 has beaten Sony's PS3 hope LittleBigPlanet to the top of the All Formats charts in the UK.
Both titles are exclusive to their respective formats, and LittleBigPlanet even benefited from a sales head-start – being released on November 5, two days before Gears' November 7 release.
But data from GfK Chart-Track shows Epic's highly-anticipated shooter entered the charts at number one, enjoying the third-best week-one sales for a 360 title, behind GTA IV and Halo 3.

According to early retailer reports, and user polls, Gears of War 2 is shaping up to be one of the biggest Xbox 360 titles to date, putting it in very similar territory to blockbusters 'Halo 3' and 'Grand Theft Auto IV'
Using the aforementioned data, Gears of War 2 looks to have debuted to midnight and Friday sales of 1,400,000 units in North America, and 700,000 units in 'Others' territories. This would be roughly 20% lower, by comparison, to Halo 3's massive debut, which wound up with 3.8 million units sold it's first week on the market.

According to a thread in the Epic forums the pre-order code to unlock the golden lancer in Gears of War 2 may not be working for some.
Not got verification on this at the moment, but apparently this isn't an isolated incident.

Load This writes: "Future Shop just got in touch to say they're cancelling the festivities surrounding tonight's midnight launch of Gears Of War 2 in Toronto and Vancouver, out of respect for the friends and family of teen gamer Brandon Crisp. Future Shop stores will still be opening at midnight to sell the game (except in Quebec and bylaw-bound Sudbury, Ont.), there just won't be any of the planned hoopla at the flagship stores in T-dot and Van.
There's still a media and Xbox fan community launch event going on tonight in Toronto (and possibly similar events in other cities); I'll be headed there myself in about an hour. But I guess a public spectacle around the release of a popular multiplayer video game so soon after the Brandon Crisp tragedy didn't sit well with Future Shop, who said the decision was made by the company and their "vendor partner", ie. Microsoft. Who, not coincidentally, had been cooperating with police in the search for Brandon, and had offered a reward for information about his whereabouts."

With Gears of War 2 just about to officially hit stores tomorrow, most gamers are preparing to tackle this latest action hit from star Epic designer Cliff Bleszinski. Not the Q-Mann, though; he lives in the future, and in the future he's already gathered word of Bleszinski's next project: a survival-horror game. Though we don't have a name or any solid details yet, Quartermann reports that the new title will mix the bloody visceral elements of Gears of War with psychological terror. And even more interesting, this one may be multi-platform.

The Videogamesplus Team has tested Gears of War 2 and Gears of War 2 Limited Edition and confirmed that they are both region free (the bonus disc that comes with the Limited Edition isn't though).
Also, turns out that Tom Clancy's EndWar is also region free.
