The development of the successor to Gears of War 2 would be awesome to hear at TGS '09. However, Epic made a valid point how to work on the sequel on this generation of consoles would be best on the next generation console utilizing the Unreal Engine 4 still in development (how could they ever top the present generation?). Mike Capps, President of Epic Game Studios said while addressing an audience at this week's Tokyo Game Show in a Q&A session, "If their were a next Gears of War, that will be for the next console generation, whenever that is. If someone knows, please tell me! That's about four or five years away, I think."

A fair bit of the latest Achievements added to Gears of War 2 are tied to the multiplayer ranking system. If you're an Achievement whore that lacks patience or mad chainsaw skills, this can be a bit of a bummer. But, then again, every holiday weekend seems to usher in a Gears 2 multiplayer XP event.

Well, what do you know? Epic Games is throwing a Labor Day event. Starting this morning and stretching through September 8th, everyone can earn double XP in multiplayer. In addition to this, winning teams in competitive public matches are being awarded with an extra 500 points. Also, Horde has been moved up to "Hardcore" difficulty, with "every tenth wave populated entirely by Sires."Sounds thrilling and it's totally happening right now! Go go go.

To promote activity on Labor Day, Gears of War 2 is having a double experience weekend...again. Like the double XP weekend they had not too long ago, you will receive double XP (obviously) as well as 500 additional XP points for a multiplayer win starting September 4th and running through September 8th. This time, however, Horde mode will default to Hardcore difficulty and every 10th round will be filled with Sires instead of masses of Tickers. If you are looking to finish off your multiplayer level-related achievements, this weekend will be a great time to do it.
