At least Tom Nook was nice enough to not demand you pay him back all at once, right then and there. Debt is part of life, I don't see how he is a villian. You add onto your house, you pay. Plain and simple. At least he lets you pay it back whenever you want without hassling you.

I'm so glad Fawful made this list!

I'm kinda surprised that the Prophets from the Halo series were not mentioned as they did start a genocidal holy war against Humanity in a bid to fire a weapon system that would wipe out all sentient life in the galaxy.

Damn I have no choice but to respect this list since there are so many beasts on it...but Sephiroth, I think he didn't make the top 3 just because people are subconsciously hating on him because he is #1 on so many other lists just like this one. I've played a lot of games...and no other character has surpassed him yet(in my opinion).

people more resent him because they idiotically believe that he's being manipulated by Jenova, who they think is the real villain. In truth, Jenova is dead, and Sephiroth is manipulating her empty corpse.

Kefka poisoned an entire city's water supply, then pretty much jerked off to it. He then destroyed the world. Kefka is pretty hard core compared to Sephiroth, who's pre-final fight lines were "........"

You forgot Diablo? You know, the ultimate embodiment of Evil? Lord of terror? The PRIME EVIL. Surely not only should he be on the list but he should be number one. #justsayin'

    Kain lives.
  • ray-johnson - April 19, 2014 1:04 p.m.

what about Evil Otto from Berzerk? dude was relentless.....
  • gavin-erhard - April 18, 2014 4:43 p.m.

King Minos from Dante's Inferno. He looks awesome and is probably one of the best bosses from that game.

I liked seeing Caius, Sephiroth, and Kefka up there. I think Bhunivelze/Bhunivelze+ is the most awesome villain ever...the 'god' of the Fabula Nova Chrystallis mythos...who also killed his mother to gain power then created the goddess Etro (who Lightning protects in FFXIII-2) in the appearance of his mother, then banishes her to the Unseen Realm/Valhalla. Aside from being hard. Ansem: SoD is another cool villain who gets quite difficult as the Kingdom Hearts series goes on, that last battle in KH: Dream Drop Distance was really hard because of the nature of his attacks (heck, I would put all the Xehanorts in my list). As an aside: I don't think Etro could get away with sparing the main party from XIII without consequences...then having some of those consequences pass itself on to the main characters (Light and Serah mostly - Taking Lightning away from Serah and giving Serah an ability that would kill her.)

I think that either Loghain from Dragon Age Origins would be a good villain for this list. If not, there are others Anders from DA2, he did kind of start a war between mages and templars. Knight-Commander Meredith from DA2, there's even the Arishok as well, he tried to play god and invaded Kirkwall
  • commandoclone87 - June 25, 2014 11:05 a.m.

I guess Loghain could go on here. I mean, he did abandon his post when his king needed him and spent most of the game trying to kill the Warden, but his reasons for that were not all selfish. Paranoid and full of hubris, he did what he did because he wanted to protect his homeland from foreign invaders, but failed to see the Darkspawn for the threat that they were. Anders in DA2 on the other hand, does not belong on this list. As we found in DA2, he had been possessed by the spirit Justice. Justice, having seen the injustices acted upon the mages by the Templar Order, was corrupted by his desires and became a Vengeance demon and took control of Anders's body. Anders is so overcome with remorse over he pleads for Hawke to kill him. The Arishok was bound to his code and while he waged war on Kirkwall over a damn book, his actions were not motivated by malice or selfishness, but duty and would not really fit on this list either. Even Meredith really does not belong here because, she too was bound by duty and a desire for vengeance. Added on top of that of course, is the fact that she had been corrupted by the Red Lillium that had taken over Varric's brother. Actually, going over it all, there are remarkably few "true" villains in the series. Most of the antagonists are normal people corrupted by their desires or just responding to their natures. If I were to nominate a character from Dragon Age as a villain, it would be Arl Rendon Howe. That asshole killed the Cousland family (Human Noble Origin), destroyed Castle Highever, generally killed or imprisoned anybody that he didn't like.

I personally thought Big Smoke from GTA:SA should have made this list, was a wee bit disappointed having to kill him in the final mission, as well as Ryder. Great game though.

I could get past Nemesis being #99 (although he should be in the top 20, only a few villains have ever been as terrifying), but once I saw that King Pig was at #84, all interest in this topic died. Seriously? King Pig is a better villain than Nemesis?

I liked this list, but I REALLY think that you should have put RIDLEY from the Metroid series on here somewhere; I mean, Mother Brain's bad and all, but overall Ridley is pretty much THE archenemy of the franchise. As far as personality goes, he's a thoroughly evil, sadistic, and cruelly intelligent bastard; he enjoys slaughtering thousands of innocents - (including Samus' OWN MOTHER) just for the hell of it, he delights in torturing and toying with Samus, and no matter how many times he's been killed, HE KEEPS COMING BACK! Also, somewhat like the Joker's desire for chaos, Commander Ridley loves genocide for genocide's sake, and that makes him FAR more menacing than Mother Brain (or Bowser), in my humble opinion.

Fun read but if there was a Red Dead Redemption villain on the list I'd have put Dutch in before Bill Williamson. He's a more complex and all-round more interesting character than Williamson.
  • flipped100 - May 22, 2013 2:46 a.m.

Oh yeah, my suggestions made it. Quite happy that you guys managed to get Luca Blight there considering how unfairly forgotten Suikoden II is.
  • MaskedPheasant - May 21, 2013 1:08 p.m.

How can Officer Tenpenny only be 40th? He oozed malevolence and stole every scene he appeared in. For me few villains have ever stirred such strong feelings of contempt and to a lesser extent respect. What's more he's not just pure evil - he genuinely believes he is right, and that 50 more of him would have saved Los Santos. Ho could he be ranked 28 places lower than that crowd pleaser Handsome Jack? Also surely Gary from Canis Canem Edit is surely worth a high ranking. Not to mention the most hate-inspiring character in all of fiction - Eric Sparrow.
  • TheDudeFromNowhere - May 20, 2013 3:03 p.m.

Kefka is definitely top 10. That psychopath laid waste to the world and made me re-recruit my team 40 hours in.
