The Rocketeer video: Full Access Playthrough

So the Rocketeer turned TWENTY last week… seriously? It seems like just yesterday the movie was premiering, and getting its ass overshadowed into oblivion by Terminator 2 and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. Several of us here at GR happen to care a great deal about Disney’s tragic, yet valiant stab at the superhero genre (pre Marvel acquisition) and think it deserves another shot at stardom. Unfortunately, we didn’t do it any favors by FAPing both the NES and SNES games from that fateful year of failure. The NES game is forgivable, but Jesus Christ, wait until you see the SNES version…

Okay, perhaps our boyhood hearts were a tad wrong about the NES version holding up to time. But with rad commercials like this one, can you blame us?

Man, you totally just Emmitt Smith'd that NES playthrough.

Just watched the Rocketeer for the first time since I was 9 and it's as awesome as the TalkRadar crew built it up to be. To bad the games look to hard to be fun....

Great video! Just out of curiosity, how come the number of "chances" wasn't going down in the SNES version? If you fail that part three times, does it let you go on to the next level? Unlikely, knowing the SNES, but I am pretty curious about that "chances" part.

Just ordered the DVD, better be as good as Chris makes it out to be. Great FAP anyway
  • Redeater - June 28, 2011 2:22 a.m.

That is actually pretty funny. I remember being 11 or 12 when this came out in theaters and I lost my shit! Funny that my thoughts on Batman was that it was extremely boring and The Rocketeer was very good. I think I actually finished the SNES version of this game. The sidescrolling parts were pretty great but that flying bullshit handled like ass!

I love FAPs in which Brett is the one playing. Oh my god. Oh thank god. Classic. (moar pls)

The movie is awesome but that SNES game is such BS. I remember getting that game when i was a kid and i never could beat that goddamn plane level!!!!!
  • DanteofFlorence - June 27, 2011 11:21 p.m.

i have the movie poster of the rocketeer hanging in my apartment! the movie makes me smile, but the snes version there was crap compared to the nes. what was up with starting the game with that racing level?
  • DannyIcefire - June 27, 2011 11:15 p.m.

As a child I remember playing the NES version at a friend's house, and it was really fun. Never tried the SNES version cause I had a Genesis, and none one I knew, with an SNES, enjoyed playing a game that was tough as all hell.
  • AdonisX82 - June 27, 2011 11:11 p.m.

Not gonna lie, I still play the NES version from time to time. Have'nt play ed the SNES, though I do have it. Don't remember the movie at all...

I know you guys have said that the new Captain America movie kind of looks like shit (which I don't really agree with) but it's cool to know that it's directed by the same guy who did the Rocketeer. Here's hoping he bring the same WWII era magic.
  • thecakeisapie - June 27, 2011 10:47 p.m.

And so, upon this day, Chris Antista was granted his one wish to FAP the Rocketeer.
  • HankVenture - June 27, 2011 10:28 p.m.

@Bobbety It's a pretty fantastic movie and seems completely UnDisney like now adays. I loved it as a kid and just bought it on dvd, watched it and it's still pretty grand
  • Mooshon - June 27, 2011 10:20 p.m.

The quintessential Rockety game has to be Rocket Ranger from Cinemaware on the Amiga. Awesome game which really should be resurrected for a HD remake at some point. It captures the era and cool old film reels chris is on about if I remember too. Check it out.

    >.> the snes version. ... whot?! not that the nes version was that much better i'm glad i passed on this as a kid. D:
  • degozaru55 - June 27, 2011 10:28 p.m.

I unfortunately had the SNES game and can confirm it is hard as balls, but for anybody wondering the only trick to the first level is to have the acceleration down and turn in to the pylon as close as possible. (Well you have to do that perfectly for like 10 laps and you might beat the red plane if you rough him up a little.)
  • MyNameIsMyName - June 27, 2011 10:25 p.m.

This did an awful job of selling this game, it seems awful, and absolutely no fun. Was the SNES guy Stan Lee?
  • Bobbety - June 27, 2011 10:05 p.m.

I just downloaded the movie. I've never seen it and now I want to after all of Chris' praise.
