Oh my God. Wow. This was just brilliant. As it begun, I started scratching my head at the things taking place in Duke's stead, thinking "Wait... wasn't this supposed to be some what-if doom-and-gloom scenario??? What's going on? The aliens are good guys?" But by the time I got to the 6th or 7th page, I realized... this was a masterfully crafted commentary on the nature of Duke Nukem Forever's treatment, development, public perception, and eventual release. It is quite a splendid example of that adage "Artists lie to tell the truth." Instead of merely saying the things regarding Duke that we've all heard tirelessly before... he was played out, outdated, the pursuit of his game so far gone as to be beyond the scope of reason, etc., you reversed the Duke's own flaws in on himself to craft one of the best satirical narrative pieces I've read in some time... and at once point out quite hilariously how the game itself did so to disastrous effect here in real life. Bravo.

if? then - opponents of Duke Nukem would be pointing a finger, ignoring their own problem, attempting promotion of their own truth, while intentionally ostracising one withstanding character; which, in turn, would be feeding the hopeless to the politicians, feeding the helpless to the alien hive, and otherwise perpetuating some unholy new world order? =) game_over (=

Frankly this whole Kickstarter fad is a bit sketchy. In the post where the management added some requirements regarding risks and challenges a project faces they voiced what I've long thought at least regarding video game Kickstarters: a lot of people think it's a store and they are just plopping down pre-orders. Now I haven't read the fine print so maybe I'm completely off base... but what happens if it doesn't pan out. Say they can't pull it off like the Ouya naysayers claim. Do you get a refund? If they go bankrupt what kind of protection do you have on that investment? That's not even mentioning petty concerns like what if the game gets delayed or turns out to be crap? Pretty sure you won't be able to just return it. It will be interesting to see how this all goes down a few years from now. Tim Schafer better planning a good ending for that game, people were trying to drum up a class action suit against Bioware over ME3... now imagine if those same people had actually funded development. In general I think it's a great concept and with trusted devs you are probably making a safe bet. With a dev like 3D Realms, who apparently have spent the last 10+ years and untold sums of cash on Ferraris and hookers rather than on the actual game they were paid to produce, not so much. TBH I'm nearly inclined to flat out label this a scam... it's doubtful they'll ever get a big time publisher to invest in them again and they still got those car payments lol. Most of the previous game devs that showed up on Kickstarter have been "underfunded but critically acclaimed" not "desperate and the running gag of the industry"

are you having a dig at the community then? Each game get's good reviews because reviewers are scared to criticise it for being 'samey'. Instead they are complimented for working upon a 'solid' structure.

I haven't played them yet, but aren't the Mario RPGs made by Square Enix? Also Dragon Quest VIII was made by Level-5, I think. Also Persona 4 Arena is getting quite a big hand off to Arc System Works doing the game now, with Atlus themselves doing the story.
