Sony's Kevin Butler appears to have fallen on hard times, jumps ship to moonlight in a Nintendo Wii advert

File this one under "desperately unfortunate breaking of the fourth wall". In possibly the most fanboy-hurting way possible, Kevin Butler actor Jerry Lambert - who plays Sony's fictional Vice President of anything he damn well wants in the long-running string of PlayStation ads - has smashed his own character's internal fiction by cropping up in a Mario Kart Wii themed promo campaign.

The ad in question is for a Nintendo/Bridgestone cross-promotion, which sees customers able to claim either a $70 American Express reward card or a Nintendo Wii when buying a set of offer-applicable tyres. It features Lambert as a Bridgestone scientist playing Mario Kart Wii in the name of research, and appearing to have far too good a time doing so for a staunch Sony warrior.

In a further twist of irony, Butler is soon set to appear in Sackboy form as DLC for the PS3's upcoming LittleBigPlanet Karting. Awkward.

"And though we may pledge fanboy allegiances to different flags, deep down inside we all serve one master, one king, and his name is GAMING. FOREVER MAY HE REIGN." Remember this? Obviously not. So Jerry Lambert did a commercial for tires that involved a Wii. Big deal. If you're so offended that he made one commercial, you don't deserve him on PlayStation's brand anyway. And this is coming from a PS fan who loves KB.

That is a weird thing... how little could Playstation be paying him that he has to go and jump ship?

An actor making a living. What a horrible human being! If Sony's going to stop using him in commercials, I don't blame him for finding work elsewhere. Calling an actor a traitor for deciding to work on something other than what made him popular is just ridiculous.

Hes only there so he can steal more ideas from Nintendo and bring them back to Sony.

I KNEW that was Kevin Butler when I saw that commercial! I find this hilarious for some reason.

He was obviously undercover to develop the Move.

this is from before he started the advertisements for Sony, and you spelled his name wrong too it is Kevin Butler. Here is a link explaining this.

Actually, the promotion is a current one, starting in late August and running through September, dating this ad as a new one. He's even visible in a shot from the trailer on the event's splash page on the Bridgestone website:

Did you just link something from IGN? What the hell is wrong with you? That site is full of ass clowns who write horrible reviews and can't even spell their own names correctly, let alone half the words contained in their articles. I go over there for a quick laugh, and then come back here when I want some good reading.

Dang you just got "Houghtoned" son!
  • ultimatepunchrod - September 5, 2012 7:14 a.m.

I thought from the headline he was just going to be standing there. Nope. Playing KB in a Wii commercial. Weeeeeeird.
