Anyone who's ever played organized basketball will never forget their coach's mantra - strong fundamentals mean victory. Sure, talented athletes can soar above the rim for some SportsCenter highlights, but wins are based on teamwork, strength, and commitment. Such is the reason that NBA 2K8 stands victorious in the PS2 hoops battle this season; while it may lack some of the bells and whistles of its competition, it is far and away the dominator on the court.

It's obvious very quickly that 2K8 rules the hardwood. From the opening tipoff, your eyes and ears will appreciate the silky-smooth experience - no framerate hitches here. Naturally, if you've been spoiled by some of the next-generation titles, the presentation won't exactly rock your socks, but it's plenty passable by PS2 standards. More importantly, though, the action is as solid as you can hope for without plopping down the big cash for a meatier gaming machine.
