Max Payne 3 has been a long time coming, as it feels like years since the Rockstar-helmed sequel was announced. Now the game is so close the publisher has revealed an expensive special edition and former Max Payne devs Remedy are helping to test the game in the last months. Need more proof that it’s coming soon? How about a bunch of new screens for the solo and online portions of the game?

This collection of screens gives you a nice look at the grim darkness of Max Payne’s personal journey of loss and redemption while simultaneously offering a taste of the headshots and character customization of the online multiplayer. Can you tell which screen is from which feature? Hint: The screens with character names floating over their heads probably aren’t from the single player missions.

Ugh, Rockstar, what are you doing? Where is the overwrought, near-parody, SINGLEPLAYER noire shooter that I loved so much? Why is it so irritatingly "gritty" and why the HELL does it have multiplayer? I'm really concerned about this game.

I'm holding my breath for this one. I trust Rockstar won't fuck it up but you never know. I really, really loved MP2.
