Forget everything you knew before: Ground Zeroes is, in fact, a prologue to Metal Gear Solid 5. It's not the first chapter, or the opening, or anything. It's a stand-alone experience, and it's coming out on March 18 for the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4. Next-gen versions will set you back $30, whereas last-gen downloads will only cost $20 (unless you buy a disc-based version of the PS3/Xbox 360 version, which costs $30--nothing can be simple with MGS, can it?). But... what it is?
"It will be Phantom Pain on a smaller scale," Kojima said. "It will be open-world, but not quite as big as Phantom Pain. It will allow you to jump in, learn how to sneak real-time in that open-world, and later on, after [players] get used to that, then Phantom Pain will come along and they’ll be thrown into this huge, gigantic open word."
