Glorious and Delicious. The game is really shaping up awesome and there's still more to.come. The antigravity mixed with Gliders and Underwater only equal awesome and fun track designs. I'm loving the water park and what is shown to be a Disco Bowser's Castle. There's also word that the Item customization on the communities will be expanded for more personal rules and the new items you mentioned seem great. Now we just gotta see how that Battle mode is going. Mario Kart is making a massive hit to be the best game in the series with so much customization, fun track designs and amazing and beautiful Graphics. And given its an online usage game, its definitely gonna last a long time. I'm Pumped. Now with that said I gotta go to bed its almost 4 am here in Brooklyn!
  • Vonter - April 3, 2014 1:12 a.m.

Me wants. I also like that it is still confirmed 4-player local mode (would have wished 5) but still is something games rarely put these days. I like the N64 rainbow road was revamped, also how now it is a single lap, since it is so freaking long.
  • shawksta - April 3, 2014 4:37 a.m.

If there's anything I want them to add, its to bring back Funky Stadium as a Battle Mode Map. That was one of my personal favorites. Also its a stretch given they already did it in 7, but maybe they can bring back Waluigi Pinball, that could've been awesome but its a shame 7 used it already so they might not bring it back but hey, Toads goddamn Turnpike is back, lets see if they'll be massive dickheads with Mirror Mode,.which I hope they do.
  • J-Fid - April 3, 2014 6:30 a.m.

Forget Funky Stadium. Bring back Funky KONG!
  • shawksta - April 3, 2014 9:07 a.m.

Given that they are bringing back Metal Mario and Lakitu from 7, and all the babies, maybe we'll get lucky. Also apparently the Zero G sections makes the karts go FASTER, making it even more awesome.
  • Vonter - April 3, 2014 10:12 a.m.

They have said there are still characters to be revealed. I didn't play the Wii or 7 versions but I think this is the largest ensemble of characters in a Mario Kart. 27 characters have been confirmed so far.
  • shawksta - April 3, 2014 11:10 a.m.

27? Damn, Mario Kart wii was the last biggest game and that had 23 including your Mii.
  • Vonter - April 3, 2014 11:41 a.m.

Here's a breakdown of all that has been confirmed, so far:
  • shawksta - April 3, 2014 2 p.m.

Eh too many details, ill pass I want to see it myself. As you said, the N64 Rainbow was brought back and made massively awesome. And the director said "One thing I do want to mention is Rainbow Road, that final course. We really want you to look forward to what we've done to it this time because it's something else. It's really spectacular." Given that 7's was a massive Planet Jumping one lap rodeo, wonder what this will be.
  • shawksta - April 3, 2014 6:42 p.m.

I found an interesting analyzation of what we assumed to be the N64 Rainbow Road the track layout/the neon sky outlines=Mario Kart 64 the city below=Mario Kart: Double Dash the floors=Super Mario Kart the walls=Mario Kart DS the star-shaped boost gates=Mario Kart Wii the full moon=Mario Kart 7 the fireworks=Mario Kart: Super Circuit the music is a mashup of several Rainbow Road iterations Its not a remake of the N64 Rainbow, its ALL OF THEM
  • Vonter - April 4, 2014 11:29 a.m.

Well that's the hook of this Mario Kart iteration, giving tribute to all the franchise, like an anthology version. I mean they got tracks essentially of every Mario Kart ever made. I hope battle mode continues this concept. Also... SMASH DIRECT!!!! HYPE HYPE HYPE If it like the latest Mario Kart 8 trailer, I think my brain is going to melt. They haven't said how long the Direct is going to be, but I hope a first look at their single player mode, new character intro video, a new trailer to glance at the new items and stages, and a release date confirmation. On the bad side, I'm worry if they should have save it for E3. But on the other hand, maybe they have several more announcements we're not aware of.
  • shawksta - April 4, 2014 12:26 p.m.

Even then, thats glorious that the Retro Rainbow is N64 with bits of past iterations. They are really kicking it to be awesome. Also we have to put into mind that Nintendo just flat out isnt making as many directs this year, it seems they want to save all the major announcements for E3. Otherwise 2013 had a direct every month. Otherwise the fact that we are even getting a game focused Direct is a blessing. Smash now isnt really taking anything away.
  • Jackonomics2.0 - February 14, 2014 11:45 a.m.

More characters, More fun Six flags.
  • MikeJazzfaceTheDancingSquirrel - February 14, 2014 3:38 a.m.

  • ienjoyallconsoles - April 3, 2014 11:39 a.m.

the developers confirmed that there is a new one plus the N64 in an interview today
  • Outofmanyone - April 3, 2014 3:29 p.m.

Ah, I hope that's true. I love the music in the Rainbow road level for the N64.. classic.
  • dangomushi - February 13, 2014 11:32 p.m.

Lullz. A lot of people on youtube are pointing out that Bowser says the N word (not nintendo) in the new trailer. It's a stretch, but, like hardly.
  • Frieza - February 13, 2014 8:39 p.m.

Unexpected my ass. The koopalings were an obvious addition, at least to me. You want to talk about unexpected? How about some characters from Super Mario RPG, like Geno, Croco, or Mallow? Or maybe some characters from the Paper Mario series, like Goombella, Yoshi Kid, or Madame Flurrie? Hell, throw in a guest character or two, like Sonic or even Wreck-It Ralph. Now THAT would be unexpected. I'm not complaining that they put the Koopalings in the game, but... Unexpected? Not in the slightest.
  • dangomushi - February 13, 2014 11:38 p.m.

Yeah, who didn't see seven koopalings joining the roster? Goddamn Cooper, write about something we don't already know.
  • shawksta - February 13, 2014 8:23 p.m.

I liked how Mario kart Wii was jam packed with Characters so why the hell not.
  • BladedFalcon - February 13, 2014 3:41 p.m.

Because I'm sure what this franchise sorely needed was more characters...
  • Vonter - February 13, 2014 4:02 p.m.

    The more the merrier?
  • BladedFalcon - February 13, 2014 4:17 p.m.

I suppose? I guess I just don't see what exactly is the benefit of adding so many characters when as far as I remember, there's only real differences between the "type" a racer is, with racers of the same type behaving practically the same way. (IE: Wario Boser and DK are all heavy, and they all behave almost the same) Of course, the last Mario Kart have I've touched is the DS one, so for all I know this might have changed. But being aNintendo game, I doubt they intend to make the mechanics complex enough that it'd merit having over 20 racers that behave differently in some way or another. It's all cosmetic, is what I'm saying. Which isn't BAD per se, but most of the improvements I've seen for this game seem to be mainly cosmetic or for visual impact. And to me it just reinforces the idea that there isn't really anything new or better to do with the series, it's more of the same *shrugs*
  • Vonter - February 13, 2014 5:16 p.m.

Well 7 improvements were in rely to having more complex tracks, ones with different paths and also giving those add ons to the karts. I'm mainly looking forward to this one because it'll be a free online game that will hopefully will be always on, since aside from Smash people like to play this series online. So I suppose having more "characters" will add more variation in that sense. Also yeah the last one I played was the DS one and hated those players who used that snaking technique.
  • shawksta - February 13, 2014 8:26 p.m.

Mario kart 7 somewhat improved the game by its more complex tracks and bringing back the coin system from the SNES game. More importantly was the communities where people can set their own rules especially against the hell all Blue Shell. The complexity level design is only pushing itself with the Zero Gravity mixed with Gliders and Underwater. Thats pretty much the best way Mario kart can improve i guess.
  • J-Fid - February 13, 2014 8:40 p.m.

Each character does have hidden boosts of varying degrees in some of their stats. There's a slight difference.
