It's genuinely upsetting that Sega of Japan was so hesitant to make any good decisions. I'm still holding out for Sega to do something truly inspired, but it's looking less and less likely.

Thanks a lot Sega, you made EA successful. Also, what if Sega of Japan and Sega of America just released different stuff in their home countries. Then those cunts at Sega Japan would've only killed their half of the deal.

Hee Hee When I read this article I heard Henry's voice when I got to the Bah! In my day I couldn't stop laughing! Apologies Henry I didn't want to hurt your feelings by saying your old, you're spunky.

...So basically, Sega of Japan was run by imbeciles, no wonder the company sunk >_>

Correction, Sega of Japan is STILL run by imbeciles.

The only good decision to come out of Sega of Japan was... Segata Sanshiro!!!!!!
  • Swedish_Chef - May 15, 2014 9:08 p.m.

Even then they only aired those ads in Japan, meanwhile the advertising for the Sega Saturn in the west was pretty much non-existent. Stil though... SEGATA SANSHIRO! SEGATA SANSHIRO! SEGA SATUUUURN! SHIROOOOOOOOO!!!

All I've learned here is that Sega of Japan was run by a bunch of stubborn dummies, who themselves caused the downfall of their consoles.

"Even though Sonic had little to do with the case, the lawyers asked Arakawa if he considered the inventor of the hedgehog a “genius” on par with Shigeru Miyamoto, Mario’s creator." Why the hell was the lawyers even asking that? Also EA are fucking criminals. During dreamcast days it seems EA wanted to struck a deal with Sega which they refused, causing EA to not only just flat out not develop anything for them but to keep shunning them, eventually piling up with Sega's other problems to the dreaded fall as a console manufacturer. It seems EA is trying to repeat history and do the same with Nintendo... Though that's just a theory, EA's relationship with Nintendo is up and down and to be fair, part of it was their stupid ass faults.

I agree. I never thought about that until now but your'e right

Yup. But on the plus side, that decision did ultimately end up with the creation of Visual Concepts' 2K Sports brand, which became a solid enough competitor that EA had to buy NFL exclusivity to shut down what was becoming an actual threat to the Madden franchise; then later buy exclusive rights to the ESPN name, in an attempt to stop even more growing threats to the rest of EA's sports games. A lot of younger folks seem to think that EA being considered a terrible and shady company is a recent thing, or even a "cool" internet fad of some sort. But nope, EA has pretty much been an underhanded piece of shit from about the beginning. However, I can't deny that they did make some pretty fun games back then, though.

It has been a hit to Nintendo not having EA sport titles and it'll hit harder not having any Star Wars games now that the movies will build hype for any Star Wars product (EA will be the only company making Star Wars games). But what can be done, they're like the Mr. Burns of the game industry, greedy, uncaring about consumers and people working for them and plain evil in regards to their anti consumer practices.

EA did this to themselves "Were gonna have Mass Effect 3 on the Wii U's Launch for $60!" Before the Wii U even came out "Were announcing the Mass Effect Trilogy with all 3 games at a cheap price for everything except Wii U" and word is apparently they wanted Origin on the Wii U but Nintendo said no and now they are butthurt.
