Highlight of the Week: The cleverest thief in all of Skyrim

Skyrim's out today (woot!) and already, all of its majesty is being undone by players taking its logic routines to their most logical conclusions. What's that you say? Stealing is only detectable with direct line of sight to the object? How on earth could that be exploi... ah.

Kudos to YouTube user Vojteek for finding this clever evolution of Fallout 3's bucket trick.

Thankfully this works in the 360 (and I'm assuming the PS3 version). Just hold A (or X on PS3) and you should pick up the pot, then just get it over the merchant's head. It doesn't seem to work in the Whiterun blacksmith because the guy has a giant axe on this back and the handle gets in the way of it, which sucks because there is a lot of great stuff there and you go there super early on in the game.

LMAO, that's hilarious. I'm definitely going to try that, but more likely than stealing things I'll go to the most populated place with buckets and put one on everyone's head for teh lulz.

Can you do the bucket trick in the console version, or is it just the PC?

Game. Of. The. Year. Seriously though, that's awesome.

I probably spent the majority of my time in both Morrowind and Oblivion devising ways to steal the shopkeeper's goods. It was amazing to be decked out in amazing shit I didn't pay a penny for. Looking forward to taking Skyrim to the cleaners.

I already saw the video where everyone gets a basket head, but this gives it another meaning entirely. All that is left is a pyramid head-look-alike object. I recently stole something as well in the game, but I did it pro-style: It was the same place and the women was going upstais to lay on the bed. I followed, the man followed, and I run downstairs immdediately and grabbed the gold object (everyone who's at least an hour into the game knows which object I mean). I never returned to the shopkeeper ever since, and it probably will be my only dirty move so far, but it was totally worth it.

oh wow, I got first, and I didn't even have to brag about it.... but mentioning it now sorta defeats the purpose so I guess I am a douche like everyone else who acts like it is a big deal
  • ToThe9thPower - November 11, 2011 7:46 a.m.

Wow, that is AMAZING. I intend on using this trick in about 20 minutes when my game gets here
  • wartser - November 11, 2011 7:45 a.m.
