    1. Halos campaign is a work of art. It tells an in depth story, it wraps the gamer in a rich and detailed universe and has deep and memorable experiences. Halo has differing encounters with enemies, large scale battles, and breathtaking environments. Halo allows the player to approach battles in different ways, and has unparalleled soundtracks and game experiences. The level of design and detail totally trumps anything CoD's linear and cliche experience delivers. Call of Duty’s single player experience is basically an on-rails cinematic experience with single-player gameplay that practically mimics the multiplayer, save the enemy AI are basically talking cardboard cutouts. There are those now ubiquitous “Michael Bay” moments where players “ooh” and “aah” but have no control over what happens. If your looking to see a crappy movie I might recommend CoD, if your looking to play a video game Halo is the clear winner. 2. In Halo you play as a genetically enhanced super soldier with a hot AI sidekick named Cortana. In CoD you play as a generic military trooper.......Think about that for a second. The homeless dude that lives in the alley behind Denny's could of been a military trooper, your Dad could have been a military trooper, Hitler was once a military trooper, do you want to be like -Yo-inking!- Hitler? No, you don’t want to be like Hitler. You want to be Master chief because you cant be him and hes the ultimate Hero. 3. Halo has warthogs, banshees, mongooses, wraiths, tanks, ghosts, etc with high functionality and different functions that the player controls completely. These vehicles have more uses in the game than just slaying but also objective and transport. Lastly, they are balanced and treated like power weapons on long timers making it so they ADD to the gameplay but not ECLIPSE the gameplay something that would happen if they were not. CoD doesn’t have vehicles, but lame gimmicky attempts at vehicles like exploding cars and flying helicopters that you cant control. What is the point of having a helicopter in the game if I cant control it? It insults my intelligence that you do not see me as fit to drive the helicopter but would rather drive it for me on a set course so I can focus on spraying and praying for 45 seconds in this Death Star they call a helicopter. Again this all speaks to trying to create a cinematic experience even in MULTIPLAYER, this is not good gameplay but good screenplay. 4. Halo is balanced for competitive gameplay. The weapons, the maps, the ranking system, the equipment/AA's are all designed to work well in a competitive environment. Every weapon has different functionality or use giving the game great weapon variety and depth. The maps vary from Blood Gulch,to Side winder, to Prisoner to suit 1v1/2v2,4v4,and 8v8 matches. The weapons/power-ups/equipment/AA's are tailored to the map to suit different play styles and strategies making each map its own unique experience. You can go from MLG 4v4 on Sanctuary,to 2v2 on Countdown, to 8v8 on Hemorrhage simply by changing playlists catering to every players wants and needs. Every new game is a different experience in Halo due to this layout as well because you are constantly adapting on the go and you are guaranteed that sniper rifle or certain play style you are accustomed due to the Sandbox nature of the game. CoD is horribly balanced for competitive gameplay. Overpowered guns with no recoil, no disadvantages , almost instantaneous kill times on any part of the body*(couple bullets anywhere), gimmicky perks that unbalance gameplay, and worst of all unlockable weapons and killstreaks which give experienced players the upper hand not because of their skill but their playtime and how well they can camp and stat hog their way to victory. This is the equivalent of giving one player a gun while the other one gets a knife simply because of the time he spends on the game, this is the worst game design I have ever seen in my life. CoD spits at the idea of needing to have a fundamentally sound and balanced FPS to be successful and has influenced other games to be made like it. The most recent example of how Crysis and BattleField 3 have succumbed to the "CoD effect" in throwing perks and killstreaks in their games. Crysis was practically ruined by doing this and I know the BattleField fans were not too happy with perks. 5. Halo has regenerating shields and more health allowing for in depth battles and exponentially more variety in encounters. Halo battles are about outsmarting and outperforming your opponent using your weapons, grenades, melee, and sometimes your equipment/Armor Abilities to defeat your enemies. Its not all about who sees who first, because while that certainly is a large factor as in any FPS game there is a ton more decision making and skill that goes into a Halo match than any CoD match. T The aspect of teamwork also shines in Halo. Players must team shot effectively, they must hold map control, they control power

I like Halo cause I just do. But I do like the Barrett 50 cal. which you can only use in Call of Duty. Plus COD can be fun when your not playing with modders hackers and cheats.

I absolutely love the zombies mode in all the CoD games. But I love everything else about the Halo games. In conclusion, I like both of them. CoD also has the P90, which is my favorite gun of ALL guns, so that adds to the liking.

I dont have Black Ops 2 yet. I do have Halo 4 and will be buying Black Ops 2 soon. I have to say the campaign in Halo 4 is VERY different, especially with the promethians. Anyone who is saying Halo 4 isnt that different from previous Halos needs to go back and play those and then play 4 again. The sound of the weapons are very different, Cheif is WAY more relatable as a person instead of a masked Spartan. The story is way more powerful, the new enemies, the new weapons and how they just mesh right in with the old favorites. Not even touching multiplayer yet. Spartan Ops is amazing, the cutscenes are beatufil in it and the narrative drives the missions alot better then CoDs Spec Ops mode in MW2. The loadouts are fun, sprinting was MUCH needed, instant respawning, joining in the middle of matches, the huge armour customaization, specializations and abilities. Halo 4 made a HUGE leap over Reach and Halo 3, compared to what Blops 2 did with MW3 and Blops 1.

Controversy attracts attention, which in turn brings ad revenue.

Meh they're both FPS games designed to dose the lowest of attention spans and they have both done a great job of it for years. Nothing special, unique or award winning about any of these franchises. They are the McDonalds of video games. Everyone loves and hate them, they are convenient a few nights a week and only the ones with the will to do better avoid it and find something better for them.

Oh man! I can only IMAGINE what super intelligent, special games YOU play! They must be FAR more amazing then the ones I, a lowly cod/halo lover likes. I mean, its not like I cant just go out and buy whatever game looks appealing to me AND like CoD/Halo! Im not allowed to like RTS games or puzzle games or RPGs, because if I like CoD/Halo, it must mean Im a shallow unintelligent person who is incapable of forming his own opinions about multiple titles. Seriously though, what super awsome intelligent games do YOU play!

does anybody really like spartan ops? or do they just like the 'idea' of spartan ops? i can't say i support episodic content if it's a vapid rehash of ideas thrown together to prolong the game. point and click offers a unique take on video game narratives, so it's use of episodes (a la walking dead) is understandable (even though i just waited until all five were out to play them straight through:). but games like halo, using the same levels and such to try to fool people into thinking you're giving them this epic unfolding side narrative feels a little dirty to me. maybe it will be good, i don't know. is it good right now? and no, them being 'free' does not not matter, as it is irrelevent. free shit doesn't smell any better.
  • zombi3grim - November 30, 2012 10:31 a.m.

Judging by your post, Im assuming you havent played Spartan Ops yet because your asking if its any good right now. It seems to me though you've already made up your mind about it.
  • avantguardian - November 30, 2012 8:08 p.m.

yes, that's why i'm asking, because my mind is already made up. brilliant strand of logic there, grim. that time of the month, buddy?
  • zombi3grim - November 30, 2012 9:12 p.m.

Woah woah woah, sir. No need to get all offended. All I said was it looks like you made your mind up. Mostly because of lines like "free shit doesn't smell any better." or "to fool people into thinking you're giving them this epic unfolding side narrative feels a little dirty to me" or "can't say i support episodic content if it's a vapid rehash of ideas thrown together to prolong the game." It looks like you dont like it before you tried it. Not saying you DONT like it. Im saying it LOOKS that way. Just relax. Not a personal attack. Just a discussion. Put the guns away, its going to be allright...
