Above: The super catchy theme for Dote up a Cat is one of the many things horses may never understand about human gamers
Game: Dote up a Cat (Nekokawaigari) Song: Intro Theme Composer: Some non-horse musician
Sometimes being a horse who loves video games has its advantages. Because I’ve been an avid gamer all my life, I’ve been able to form many treasured friendships with non-horse geeks. My horse heart may be three times as large as the average human’s, but it feels joy and pain just the same. Like so many JRPG fans, I too remember tearing up when Aerith died – and I hate shopping at GameStop just as much as the next guy. Still, as a proud member of the Equidae family, I am reminded on a daily basis that there are some things I’ll never understand about the human species, which brings us to today’s game music of the day and the topic at hand. Can someone please explain to me why humans love cats so much?
I’m not talking about the kind of love that compels your kind to post ironic photographs of your pets with grammatically incorrect captions on Lolcat websites. I’m talking about the love that has led to the birth of an entire game genre devoted to catering to the sexual fetish for cats that afflicts some of your species gaming population. Today’s game music of the day is the intro theme song for the Japanese adventure game, Dote up a Cat (aka Nekokawaigari).

The pop doesn’t stop in this super catchy and ultra cute tune. Ever since a colleague forwarded a link to the music video below, I just haven’t been able to get this game’s adorable theme song out of my head. Thanks to Dote up a Cat, “Nyah! Nyah!” has been my battle cry to get psyched for my daily jogs around the stable – and that’s a problem, because now that I’ve had a closer look at the lyrics it’s clear that the adorable theme song for Dote up a Cat masks one of the most sinister and creepy games of all time.

From what I’ve gathered, this Japanese hentai adventure has you playing doctor in a hospital overrun by terminally ill cat girls. Of course, this means that you get to violate your doctor-patient relationship in more ways than I’d care to describe, which leaves me with this sugary sick song stuck in my head and more questions than answers. Why such a cute tune for such a dark title? Why the homosapien obsession with cat tails when there are so many fine horse manes to hold? What do I need to do to stop the constant cacophony of “Nyah, nyah-ing” from ringing in my ears as I try to erase this unforgettable and catchy theme song from my memory banks? Seriously. Can anyone explain mankind’s fascination with felines in simple terms that an average horse, like me, can understand?
