Far Cry 3 gameplay from PAX 2012 features a freaking bear!

We've said on several occasions that there are two ways to make a game into a sure-fire hit. The first is to add a gun that lets you pin people to walls. Like, a harpoon or something. The second is to add a bear. We're not sure if Far Cry 3 has a harpoon gun, but after watching this video, we know it has a bear--which means it's halfway to being the best thing ever.

Check out this footage, fresh from PAX 2012, for all of your scary bear needs.

Uhhhhh......................... I don't know. It looks better and a bit lacking to be honest. The gameplay looks to have improved a lot and many of Far Cry 2's problems look to be fixed. But why get rid of the active map that you have to navigate in real time. That was one of the coolest features in the last game. Plus navigating the gun menu using an old computer. Or even gun durability (don't know if it is still in this game). These are all minor complaints but they really added to the last game and its a shame that they didn't make it into this game.

I liked how you had to work for your information on the AI in FC2. Here it tells you where everybody is, and if they can see you. Hopefully you'll be able to turn these assists off, otherwise all of the skill involved in actually playing the game could be lost. I don't want to just react to overt, in-your-face visual cues like the detection gauge and the floaty icons above peoples' silhouettes. It totally spoils the immersion, and makes it feel like I'm satisfying a set of conditions in the code, rather than actually hiding or being stealthy.

I wondered why the graphics looked so much less impressive than usual, then I noticed the Xbox button prompts...

Actually, they just set the camera to film what was on the tv. Thus, a dip in quality.

    What Mattdawarrior said. Also, Xbox.

This is actually being played on a PC with an xbox 360 controller

So looking forward to this game, it looks like it's fixed FC2s flaws and just looks awesome! However... where were the bears we were promised? The video ends just before we see them! Boo, hiss, etc...

So glad to know that the entire map isn't going to always be one big hostile battlefield this time around. Loved Farcry 2, but some times you just wanted that outpost you keep passing through to stay dead.
