UPDATE! Euro and US 3DS owners finally get eShop game demos tomorrow, starting with...

Nintendo has finally taken pity on 3DS owners in Europe (UPDATE - and now the US too) and announced that downloadable game demos are coming to the eShop as early as tomorrow (19th Jan). First game to get the demo treatment? Resident Evil: Revelations - probably our most-anticipated game on the system in the immediate future.

But there's more! Our not-quite-second-most-anticipated-game in the immediate future, Cooking Mama 4: Cooking Magic, is also coming tomorrow in demo form. Worth a try, if only to see whether it's even more disappointing to cook lovely 3D food you can't actually eat than lovely 2D food you can't actually eat.

Above: "Decorate Mama’s kitchen and customize your utensils as you tilt your Nintendo 3DS to cook in a whole new way like never before" LIKE NEVER BEFORE

Both demos will be free to download and you can rest assured that this is just the start of a long line of free bite-sized gameplay downloads. We don't mean a load more Cooking Mama demos, more like forthcoming demos of Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D, Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games and Rhythm Thief & the Emperor's Treasure.

Above: Snake is eyeing up your eShop and probably distracting it with a jazz mag

The floodgates, they have opened. And we couldn't be more pleased. Now when are we getting our Game Gear games, eh?

Awwwwww yeaah! Very excited for Resi demo, though will most likely be a first day purchase for me anyway. Took the plunge on 3DS few weeks back and bloody loving it. Playing LoZ: OoT again for what must be the 30th time in my life. If they don't remaster Majoras Mask, i'll probably cry.

Is this the first time Nintendo have ever released downloadable game demos?? I don't remember being allowed to do this on the Wii?

I believe the SNES could download demos via the Satellaview addon that also allowed full games and other media to be downloaded. But I could be wrong on that. It was also of course Japan only. The Wii has demos of a few select few WiiWare titles. But there are no demos full disc based games. The Wii simply doesn't have the storage space for it.

Thanks for the reply! This just shows how Nintendo is pushing the 3DS in the correct way. To be honest with you its online features are really good now. Constant updating on the 3d Video, Eurosport , various old and specially created 3DS games and now demos. Great times :)

Yeah what he said, wiiware and dsi could download certain titles but only for a limited time.

...I'm guessing "jazz mag" is British slang for Playboy and the like?

I second you on the Game Gear games, Justin. Sonic 1 and 2 pleaseeee...

Are we still on the limited use scheme (can only play 30 times?), can't see it as much of an issue but I heard the ace combat demo only allows 3 plays which is a bit steep in my opinion.

Resi is my most anticipated 3DS game for the year, can't wait to try it out!

can't fricking wait to try out Resi. I've pre-ordered it but just need to confirm my suspicions that I'll like it!

Hi Justin. Just wondering if this is the same for Australia?
