If we've learned anything from Ubisoft's release of Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, it's that the publisher isn't afraid to let its developers work outside the box. With that in mind, the Montreal team (known for making games in the Assassin's Creed and Splinter Cell series) is making a turn-based RPG centered around fairy tale magic, monsters, and pixies. Child of Light stars a red-headed princess who battles her way through the evil Black Queen's minions to restore the stolen Sun, Moon, and Stars to the land of Lemuria.
Players will explore the 2D world as Aurora (the ginger princess) and her light-gathering firefly ally. Like any RPG, you'll have to explore towns, talk to NPCs, and gather party members to fight beside you. As you explore the beautifully animated environment, your firefly can collect light orbs to boost your health and magic meters. In single player, you can take control of the firefly at any time, but the two player co-op allows a friend to completely take control of the glowing companion.
When you encounter an enemy, you're warped to a battle screen and given the genre's familiar turn-based combat options. Aurora can earn a variety of skills that allow her to rain giant fireballs down on her enemies, project earth elemental powers, or freeze foes with ice powers. Gaining experience and levels for your party mates unlocks skill points in the expansive skill trees.
