After being burnt so many times it's hard to summon up any excitement about another game set in the Alien universe, I'd dearly love to be wrong though

Yeah, I'm gonna watch this one but there no way I'm gonna give in to the hype this article has for it. That spiel about the AI being "alive" might have some truth to it, but I could imagine the game spawning it near your path and because of a quirk with the AI and the environment you could run right past it's face. Also, I'm not a survival horror fan, so this game lost some points with me already. I'd rather be a lost marine having to conserve ammo and check corners carefully while I locate my squad mates or complete a mission given by radio than be completely disarmed. I do love both Alien and Aliens so at least the look has my interest.

Trust me, running past this thing is not an option. I'm going to be doing a feature soon explaining exactly what it's like to play in much deeper detail. Keep an eye out for it.

Ok, I'll keep watching out for it. We do need a good Alien game to cheer us up.

Agreed, I've heard simillar praise for just about every aliens/avp game this generation and the only quality worthy of praise in my mind was the online deathmatch of the avp game. Nearly pitch black and everything was hidden. Imbalanced and full of ninjas but seriously scary the first few times you play a map.

Hmmmm I'm not so sure about this....

I don't know about this studio's pedigree. It seems like they've exclusively made Rome RTS' for the past decade
  • Korppi - January 7, 2014 7:11 p.m.

Only 2 of them are Rome. They make the Total War series, which is all different time periods. They also made the decent action game, Viking.: Battle for Asgard. It might not be their style, but they are a pretty good dev.
  • Korppi - January 7, 2014 7:12 p.m.

And the games are turn-based 4X with RTS battles. But that's just me nitpicking. lol

Why are there comments from last month on this article? Was there an article about the possibility of this game then or something? Cause for me this has come completely out of the blue! Great preview though, Dave. The game sounds like it could be awesome, and the fact that it's a hands-on preview definitely allows us to get a bit more hyped than for Colonial Marines. It'll be interesting though to see how they string the scenario out for at least 6 hours (if they even manage that) without padding. Are there a load of other characters in the same place as the Xenomorph or is that a different part of the game? It just seems weird that they'd be coexisting together which was sort of implied in the article and I wasn't really sure about.

Zombi U motion tracker would make too much sense, but still not plans to bring this to the U.
  • mentalityljs - January 7, 2014 5:19 p.m.

So what exactly did you do in the demo? What was/were the objective(s)?
  • GOD - January 7, 2014 2:20 p.m.

Hmmmm so about 11 months from now we'll be watching Ryan and/or Sophia playing this on a stream in the dark, yeah?
  • GR_SophiaTong - January 7, 2014 2:54 p.m.

I've never seen the movies... I tried watching the latest one on the plane and got bored.
  • GOD - January 7, 2014 3:10 p.m.

I doubt the biggest thing on your mind when your playing will be "what's the backstory?"..... I'd say let's make Zach play but I feel like his heart can't take anymore.
  • GR_SophiaTong - January 7, 2014 3:12 p.m.

I had to watch X-files with all the lights on and with other people in the room. Not really into aliens... or anything jumping out of people's stomachs. Although I did watch Species for whatever reason :P that was dumb.
  • bebl09 - January 7, 2014 5:46 p.m.

The latest one being... Alien vs Predator 2? If so, no wonder you got bored! The first two are incredible, it all went downhill after Aliens though (Alien 3 was decent).
  • GR_SophiaTong - January 7, 2014 1:08 p.m.

    Whoa, look at those desks

Someone should write a feature about that!
  • Pruman - January 7, 2014 12:52 p.m.

I hate the idea of playing as Ripley's daughter. It smacks of lazy writing, like abandoning Kirk near the one place on the one planet in the entire galaxy where Future Spock was hanging out in the Star Trek reboot. I usually agree with the site's opinions, though, so I'll keep an open mind. That said, I am pretty excited for this one. I LOVE the use of the movie's aesthetic and can't wait to get my hands on it. If it takes off, I want a sequel that explores the fall of Hadley's Hope.

The first? The 1999 Alien Vs Predator game by Rebellion says otherwise.
