Luc Besson To Produce Sci-Fi Lockout

Guy Pearce to star in a French futuristic action flick based on a original idea from the Fifth Element director

A couple of weeks back we reported that Luc ( The Fifth Element ) Besson was in the early stages of developing a new science fiction film that he intends to direct. In the meantime, though, he's still tossing out SF ideas for other people to direct.

EuropaCorp, Besson’s French film company, is making Lockout , a sci-fi action flick starring Guy ( Memento ) Pearce, Maggie ( Lost ) Grace, Peter ( Armageddon ) Stormare and Tom ( Pirates Of The Caribbean ) Hollander. James Mather and Stephen St. Leger will direct the film from their script co-written with Luc Besson, who also serves as the producer.

Lockout is about a falsely convicted ex-government agent (Pearce), whose only chance at obtaining freedom lies in the dangerous mission of rescuing the President's daughter (Grace) from rioting convicts at an outer space maximum security prison (erm, hang on… isn't this Esacpe From New York ?)

“Luc and Pierre-Ange [Le Pogam, co-founder of EuropaCorp] are creating a highly entertaining sci-fi film with classic action sequences, a gripping story and a great cast that audiences will love,” says Bob Berney, of FilmDistrict which has just bought the US distribution rights to the film.
