With Star Wars: Rogue One (opens in new tab) having roughly a billion trailers and TV spots (opens in new tab), it only makes sense for Star Wars 8 (opens in new tab) to follow its lead with a galaxy-load of promotional material before it drops in theaters next year – but Adam Driver thinks differently. He wants no trailers at all, the evil so-and-so.
Driver, who plays Kylo Ren, spoke to Cinema Blend (opens in new tab) about his idea for no trailer, no nothin': "I'd love [having no trailer]. The less people know, I feel like, the more exciting… the more of an event it is."
This is probably the worst idea since the time he killed you-know-who but he does have a point. Imagine sitting down to watch a Star Wars movie knowing nothing about it. It’s the closest we’ll ever get to experience Star Wars for the first time again.
If nothing else, it would stop me having to analyse each trailer frame by frame until I lose contact with all of my friends and family. Again.
Directed by Rian Johnson and starring Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Laura Dern, Mark Hamill, Adam Driver, Gwendoline Christie, and Benicio del Toro, Star Wars: Episode 8 opens in cinemas on December 15, 2017.
