It'll all end in tears. In fact, there are probably quite a few fans shedding tears already

We'd all heard the rumours, and hoped that’s all they were. But no. Warners Bros is going ahead with a new Buffy The Vampire Slayer movie without the involvement of creator Joss Whedon.

Instead some actress called Whit Anderson (she was in Yes Man ) is writing the script, thus immediately becoming a candidate for a) the most hated woman on the internet and b) the bravest woman in showbusiness. Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven and Steve Alexander will produce the film alongside Doug Davison and Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment ( The Ring , How to Train Your Dragon , The Departed ).

“Whit approached us with an exciting idea about how to update Buffy ,” said Roven. “There is an active fan base eagerly awaiting this character’s return to the big screen.” Wrong – there is an active fan base eagerly awaiting Joss Whedon to reboot Buffy , and ready to moan like buggery about anyone else attempting to do so.

Roven goes on: “We're thrilled to team up with Doug and Roy on a re-imagining of Buffy and the world she inhabits. Details of the film are being kept under wraps, but I can say while this is not your high school Buffy, she'll be just as witty, tough, and sexy as we all remember her to be.”

Okay, so let’s not condemn the movie before we've even groaned at the first casting news, but they’re going to have to come up with something really special to combat all the bad vibes this is going to create on the ’net.
