Twilight scores big at the US box office

Bond slides into second place

Somewhat unsurprisingly, teen vampire romance tale Twilight has snagged first place at the US box office this weekend.

Given the already swarming fanbase and huge advanced ticket orders, the last week has simply been a build-up to how big the film would launch – and the answer is $70.6 million. That sound you hear is the sequel cranking up already.

Quantum Of Solace held strong and narrowly snatched second place with $27.4 million, ahead of Disney’s doggie adventure ‘toon Bolt, which made $27 million. Tomorrow’s final figures could see those positions shift.

There were no other big new entries into the charts, with the top five rounded out by Madagascar and Role Models. You can find the top 10 below.
