Large-scale FPS Wardogs takes all the right notes from a popular Arma 3 King of the Hill mod, and you can sign up for the playtest now
100 players, three teams, one zone, and a lot of cash to fight for come together in one explosive package
Bulkhead is gearing up to launch its Arma 3-inspired FPS Wardogs into Steam Early Access later this summer, but you may be able to play early if you sign up for the pre-alpha playtest now.
Fresh off a new look at the Future Games Show Summercase, the key rules of engagement are simple. Inspired by a popular King of the Hill mod played in Arma 3, you'll see 100 players tossed into a 256km² map before being split into three teams and fighting for control of a randomized 2x2km central ‘Control Zone.’

To win, you'll have to be part of the team that scores 100 points first. To make sure you are on the team that does just that, you'll want to master a persistent cash system that rewards action. When you begin each life, you'll purchase a custom loadout that includes everything from weapons and gear to utility items and vehicles. To get more cash, you'll want to complete actions in the Control Zone like controlling the objective or reviving a teammate.
Bulkhead stresses in a press release that Wardogs isn't a simple battle royale or an extraction shooter, but a new take on a large-scale FPS.
You've also got a battlefield that evolves throughout the skirmish thanks to destruction and base building. For example, structures can be damaged and destroyed, but also fortified or repurposed. As such, the terrain of each match will mold to how the action unfolds.
Wardogs is set for Steam Early Access later this summer - a date which was recently brought forward - during which Bulkhead will focus on refining the game's core systems and expanding its features and content, while addressing fan feedback.

I joined GamesRadar+ in May 2022 following stints at PCGamesN and PocketGamer.Biz, with some freelance for Kotaku UK, RockPaperShotgun, and VG24/7 thrown in for good measure. When I'm not running the news team on the games side, you'll find me putting News Editor duties to one side to play the hottest JRPG of 20 years ago or pillaging the depths of Final Fantasy 14 for a swanky new cloak – the more colourful, the better.
