Trials Evolution editing tools could give Xbox 360 its LittleBigPlanet 2. Trailer shows best FPS ever to appear in a bike game

Damn fine game, Trials HD. Damn fine game indeed. Had no qualms with beating you over the head with the Difficulty Stick mind, while at the same time teasing you back again and again with the dangled carrot of sleepless addiction. In a lot of ways it was the filthy dominatrix of the stunt racing video game world. But hey, I'm basically good with that.

I was though, a bit dubious of what the Xbox Live Arcade sequel, Trials Evolution, which arrives this spring, could really add to the original game's perfectly honed, noose-tight mechanics. Well it turns out that the answer is "everything". Because as this new trailer shows, the game's new level editor allows you to make absolutely anything you want, from Space-Invaders-style shooters, to full 3D racing games, to pinball, to helicopter and birdman games that look a bit like Pilotwings, to Micro-Machines-style arcade racers, to the best FPS ever seen in a bike racing game*.

Frankly, I have no idea how it's doing any of this, or what the hell Trials Evolution really even is any more, given the huge spread of stuff it can obviously do. But I do know categorically that I am now very much in.

*Since 3D Deathchase, obviously.

Long-time GR+ writer Dave has been gaming with immense dedication ever since he failed dismally at some '80s arcade racer on a childhood day at the seaside (due to being too small to reach the controls without help). These days he's an enigmatic blend of beard-stroking narrative discussion and hard-hitting Psycho Crushers.
