When gazing out over the smoking expanse of World War II shooters, it takes a really special title to catch your interest. Call of Duty 2: Big Red One takes a fairly competent bayonnette stab at it, but these soldiers could have used a little more time in training.

CoD2:BRO's story centers around the exploits of the First Infantry Division--the legendary "Fighting First," who were sent to the war's hotspots before anybody else--but the vague plot points don't grab you until well into the game's middle. A fairly accurate depiction of the events of World War II as seen through the eyes of the United States' burliest division, BRO takes players through some of the unsung locales ordinarily glossed over by most titles. Fighting more than simply Nazis, you and your fellow troops trek ploddingly through Africa, through black-shirted Italy, and into annihilated France.
