Spider-Man adds Denis Leary

Denis Leary

Denis Leary has been added to the cast of Marc Webb’s upcoming Spider-Man reboot.

The Ice Age voice actor, who’s not been in a live-action movie since 2002, is in the final stages of negotiating to play Gwen Stacy’s father, George. A former NYPD Captain, George was a small supporting character in the original Spidey comics.

In the comics, though, George was a big feature in the Doc Ock storyline, which obviously won’t be taking place in Webb’s reboot. A bit of cannon reshuffling is in order there, then.

Spider-Man is set to swing in front of cameras next month, with Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker, Emma Stone as Gwen, Rhys Ifans as The Lizard, Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben and Sally Field as Aunt May.
