Tony Hawk's Project 8

Tony Hawk hits the platform most resembling a skateboard

It’s that time of year again. Tony Hawk has landed on every major platform. And, while Xbox 360 and PS3 may sport the primo graphics, the ex-gen consoles carry the core gameplay we’ve come to expect from our yearly Hawk offering. You’ll be happy to know that the portable version of Tony Hawk's Project 8 is just as robust. With a few barely noticeable tweaks, the PSP kicks out just about every feature found on the PS2 and Xbox.

Above: Thanks to a lack of PSP images, these are all PS2 screens, but the PSP version is admirably similar.

Gone are the goofy stories brought to us by THUG and THAW. Your goal here is simply to skate your way into one the eight coveted spots on Mr. Hawk's team. What you get on the PSP is skating - straight up. In addition to the familiar skate mechanics, you’ll think you recognize the levels. A school, a factory, a plaza, the obligatory skate park - sure these are new, and bigger, but we’ve seen them before. The levels in Project 8 lack imagination compared with previous efforts, but those simply looking to bust out new lines should find plenty to work with.
