NHL 2K7 Skates onto the PS3

After an extensive overhaul of the rushed NHL 2K6 game, NHL 2K7 made its debut on the 360 looking much slicker, with all-new animations and a host of new presentation and gameplay features - the PS3 version’s sole meaningful tweak is the addition of some Sixaxis tilt control for those who love waving their arms around in front of their TV.

The new transitional animations smooth out those quick turns and fast stops, and the skaters move with more realistic momentum – no more spinning on a dime. The more weighted feel adds a nice touch of realism, giving you more to think about when you try to deliver a big hip check.

Despite this, the graphics are mostly next-gen… mostly. The cheering, stubby-handed fans all look largely the same, but during gameplay, the new animations look great, and details from snow that builds up on the ice to the players’ frosty breath come together to complete the experience. The reflections on the glass and ice are perfect - it’s only when the close-up cut scenes play that things feel lacking. Granted, you need an HDTV to really appreciate this – if you’re stuck with the white, yellow, and red cables that came packaged with your PS3, things are a bit of a mess.
