New Mass Effect 2 DLC confirmed

Even if you've blasted through Overlord and Shadow Broker, you’ll still have more Mass Effect 2 to play in 2011. A post from the in-game Cerberus Network news service confirmed that the game will see new DLC content sometime in 2011, and announced the end of daily Cerberus Network updates.

Here’s the full announcement from the Cerberus Network:

The Cerberus Daily News will begin a hiatus on January 24th, finishing its run of one full year. Daily postings will cease except for three weeks in 2011: a week of posts will precede a downloadable content release, and two more weeks will lead up to the release of Mass Effect 3. The CDN team thanks fans for their attention, comments, and feedback (both in and out of character!). We are sorry to go, but we had fun — we hope you did, too!

While the post didn't say anything specific about the timing of the release, we'd guess the DLC will likely hit shortly after the PS3 version's January 18 release date.

The DLC for Mass Effect 2 has only gotten better. Seriously though I don't know how they're going to top Shadow Broker, that was the best.

I think I got a bit carried away with my complaint. DLC can be fun. It allows you to get a bit more of the world created by the developers, which was already very impressive (and replayable, to make different choices from the first playthrough) before the DLC. Still, I would like to be able to make and add my own quests, armor, etc. Ten years from now, Bioware won't still be making DLC for ME2, and, at that point, the ability to make our own with an official modding tool would keep me interested in it.

@Jesse What do you suggest they do with ME2 then with ME3 coming out later this year? People still play ME1. People still play ME2. My guess is when ME3 comes out, people will STILL play ME1 and ME2 multiple times before and after purchasing ME3. Your logic is flawed. Not every PC game needs a modding tool. I'd rather see something new and fresh from the developers as they see fit.

The concept of DLC disgusts me. It's just an excuse for not releasing modding tools. Once they stop making DLC, the replayability will go way down, and I'll probably play KOTOR instead.

great love me some more mass effect 2 goodness but they're still going to be character clothes/armour right? they wouldn't release a armour pack for Garrus and not Tali am i right?
  • 12quad - January 3, 2011 9 p.m.

Did anyone else notice Garrus carrying a futuristic M60?! AWWWWW YYYYYEEEAAAHHH (I am fully aware that the weapon there isn't an m60. I'm just doing this for the lulz)

Anyone else here is kind of bummed that CDN is gonna go away soon? I was surprised that it even lasted this long. Oh well, it will be missed. Oh, and hooray for the DLC! Just recently finished Lair of the Shadow Broker and I am currently trying to beat that effing game on Insane. I really hope it lasts more than 1-2 hours though...
  • SOUND_DIVE_ALARM - January 3, 2011 8:16 p.m.

just started playing ME1 and ME2 again to get pumped for ME3, glad to know that there will be more of a reason to spend even more time in the ME universe
  • JohnDagger - January 3, 2011 7:56 p.m.

Awesome! But I hope they release a piece of DLC that directly ties ME2 to ME3 and cannot be activated until after the Suicide mission.
  • SteampunkJim - January 3, 2011 7:37 p.m.

Good to know. I've needed an excuse to get back into this game.
  • aham1994 - January 3, 2011 7:28 p.m.

The old DLC will be included in the ps3 version, right? Will it be treated like a game of the year game like Fallout 3 and Borderlands? Anyway, I am extremely excited for this!
  • Bloodstorm - January 3, 2011 7:23 p.m.

Here's to hoping it is more of an 'Awakening' styled add-on, with a much larger and longer storyline. Shadow Broker was good, but I want an excuse to keep ME2 in the tray for a solid 6 to 10 hours.

Can't wait to fire this thing up on mah PS3! Oh yeah!
