You ALSO were the ones who wanted a Galaxy 2, so stop say, "We're DISSAPOINTED because it's a clone". It's what you wanted.

You guys say, "Oh, yeah, we're hardcore Nintendo fans", and then you turn around and bash the hell out of it.

At the end of the first page i was thinking what was the start of the second page. Nintendo really only seems to be giving the hardcore juuuuuuusssssst enough to barely hold their interest. So they can half heartily hold both sides of the gamers. Sad. And as far as what RonnyLive19881 said about. "Did you not hear Miyamoto say it is going to be a HARDER version of Galaxy to please core fans?" First of how many times has the Wii demons claimed how something will "satisfy both hardcore and casual audiences." It frankly doesn't really matter what they say anymore because they don't have any credibility anymore. And secondly and more importantly this article wasn't complaining about how this new galaxy wont be "hard" enough. Its not about how difficult this game is at all. The main focus of this article was to show how unoriginal the whole of Nintendo has become.

SMG fooled the games journalism world wth it's one trick pony gameplay gimmick(woo spheres!)and now we get more but a bit more difficult? Great. More Zelda details, a Kid Icarus, Starfox,F-Zero or, hell, even Kirby game were more what we wanted and IF there was to be a new mainline Mario didn't we want it to move along from what SMG did? Team Ninja's 2.5D Metriod M is a way more appealing game(looks awesome-my favourite "surprise" of the whole cackfest of E3)for anyone with a hardcore heart anyway and more along those lines plus Ninty RELEASING FATAL FRAME 4 in the west might effin help a bit!!! Seriously how long have they been working on TP2(SMG2, TP2 is there a pattern?)? The original was ready well before Wii launch as really it was a GC game so wtf have they been doing? BTW, being English gives you EVERY rignt to be miserable and pessimistic-esp as a journalist of any kind.

That was a much more eloquent phrasing of the primitive rage noises I've been making for the past couple of days...something like, "ARRGH RAHAAR VITALITY WHAT GRUUUUGH MARIO GALAXY 2 FAAAARGH!" You are absolutely right and your phrasing is perfect. Good show.

Sorry for the double post but here is the issue to comparin Mario Galaxy 2 to something like Gears 2 or Modern Warfare 2. Mario games are about fun not really the story. Games like gears tell a story and a sequel builds on that story so the characters and world in the game grow. Mario games have always been distinctly different from their previose installments and this one simply doesnt do that. Also those other 2 games have fantastic online multiplayer which means a sequal can expand on that.

I totally agree. Every console from n64 days till today had just one "true" mario game. Now there's a sequel just 2 years after the original? wtf? And Mario Galaxy was supposed to be unique, you know? We don't want to play in space forever, that melody is gone, man! They are just recycling ideas, just like they are doing with the new DS Zelda. Nintendo has been going down the drain really fast since last year, they need to come up with a better system soon. About the motion sensing stuff, I think it's awesome to have 2 different ways to play. It's obvious motion-sensing has some advantages in some games. Just as true as there are advantages in other games by playing with a regular controller. The "revolution" is not about changing the way you play games, it's about adding new ways to play. I'm totally comfortable with that. You can make great games with either control. Sweet. Let's hope nintendo remembers that in their next endeavor
  • siavm - June 5, 2009 1:30 a.m.

Everything you say is opinion. Opinion I don't agree with. I know you like a lot of games on other systems that are the same as the first in pretty much every way. And the new nintendo you are talking about is releasing good games. So if Metroid: Other M and the Mario games are bad to you, your opinion scares me.
  • jedibron - June 4, 2009 10:06 p.m.

So I am wondering if the same person complaining about this had issues with Epic making Gears of War 2. This it what cracks me up about journalists like this They will complain if Nintendo keeps a certain formula for one of its games like Galaxy 2 yet doesn't call out other companies like Epic or Bungie for doing the exact same thing. And yet Nintendo announced a new metroid that is unlike any other metroid I have ever seen. And yet you complain about Nintendo doing a direct sequel to one of the best Mario games out there.
  • grFROMAN - June 4, 2009 9:31 p.m.

"If one announcement would be enough to keep hardcore Nintendo fans happy, it would be a proper new Mario game. Super Mario Universe? While N64 and Gamecube only have one 'proper' Mario game to their names, there's no reason Wii can't have another one." Does nobody know what they want anymore?...nope.
  • Xeacons - June 4, 2009 8:45 p.m.

I wouldn't have a problem with this article if it weren't for the fact: YOU GUYS WERE THE ONE'S CRYING FOR A GALAXY 2! You just said that Nintendo needs a successor to SMG if they want to keep up with Microsoft. You've got no one to blame for this but yourselves.
  • marioman50 - June 4, 2009 7:54 p.m.

I guess I was the only one who freaked over the new metroid by team ninja. Especially after reading this interview http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?cId=3174587&p=44 Plus, we got a new Mario Bros. (yeah, not the most creative title). And though Nintendo didn't do a very good job in promoting it, I'm sure there are going to be some crazy levels. And now I can finally play cooperatively, which I always thought would be a cool addition to the mario bros. series. Now you don't have to just sit by and watch your friend play. I have a feeling it's going to be another one of those titles you can fall back on in between larger games. Though they don't do the best job of promoting there stuff, I honestly can't wait to play a lot of the games that are being released on their system.
  • Cerberus1838 - June 4, 2009 5:51 p.m.

Everyone leave David alone, just because he thinks nintendo failed doesn't mean anyone else does, several problems arise in this article, the major impression being that its quite bias, saying that nintendo announced nothing, 3 major games which picked up my attention were: Metroid Other M, New Super Mario and of course Super Mario Galaxy 2. The last being the most lackluster after discovering move information but huge none the less, the only real problem is that it is SMG just different maps, but SMG was such a great game that even being recycled will still probably make it better then Sunshine. PS: Lol at "Amazing" Project Natal, 1:1 controls on the Sony are amazing, Microsoft just looked like it threw alot of money at "the next wii" idea and came out with this, plus pretending theres a stirring wheel in your hands looks tiring, not to mention silly. (Lets just hope Dad can pull off changing that tire like a pro)
  • maxofblades - June 4, 2009 12:38 p.m.

getting a wii was one of the biggest mistakes i ever made. The only reason i got one was for zelda twilight, metroid prime 3, super mario galaxy and super smash bros brawl. zelda was good and super mario galaxy was awesome, but metroid prime 3 and SSB: brawl were just clones of the originals with a little extra content and did not have any pull to keep me coming back at all. I have literally not bought any other games and am not interested in any at all. ive played and completed every single metroid game to date and to for me not to get excited about metroid: another M , breaks my heart!
  • vitoruss - June 4, 2009 6:33 a.m.

Yeah, this'll end up like Left4Dead 2- same idea as the first game just... not. They don't NEED to change anything to sell more. They found their niche and they're going to merrily fulfill their role.
  • Mushroomer - June 4, 2009 2:40 a.m.

I think this one deserves a pass, because it's not TRYING to be a revolution. It's Galaxy 2, effectively a stand-alone level pack for the original, with a bunch of new content. If this were the huge Mario title for Wii 2, then get pissed. As for now? It's just a great addition to a great time.
