While the Hollywood storyline of the console version has been slimmed down to the equivalent of a Fisher-Price picture book and the open-world exploration has been cut entirely, Need for Speed Undercover on DS is a surprisingly zippy little racer. The opening races suggested a generic driving game that gets away with being mediocre because of the limitations of the DS.
However, once you get behind the wheel of some of the faster, more entertaining cars and start taking part in the Hot Car, Criminal Scramble and All Points races you’ll find a relatively rapid and varied arcade racer. It’s by no means exceptional but other handheld Need for Speed games have been horrid. This, thankfully, isn’t.
