Riding dragons? Slaying giants? Overthrowing a tyrannical king? Huzzah. Eragon on the DS certainly sounds like it bears all the earmarks of an epic RPG. But it turns out that it's more akin to a hastily produced, licensed action title, tossed out to coincide with a Hollywood movie, and could even leave hardcore fans of Christopher Paolini's Inheritance saga (that's the books, in case you didn't know) underwhelmed.

Normally, talking to townsfolk can help you better know an environment or facilitate gathering clues. But this rich setting is squandered with characters that have nothing worth saying, and who send you on missions to collect crap ranging from fruit to sticks... yes, sticks. We wouldn't complain if Eragon's sidequests amounted to anything, but it'll rarely score you more than concept art from the game. Eww.
