Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 announced for 360 and PS3

Konami's vampires return

Though we have a real soft spot for Castlevania's 2D past, when Konami teamed up with MecurySteam to create Lords of Shadows a couple years ago, the series finally caught up to the present. Now the violent vampire fun is ready to make a return in Lords of Shadows 2. Check out the first trailer below:

We'll no doubt see more of this game and the 3DS portable spin-off Mirror of Fate at E3 next week. Stay tuned!

So excited for this game! I thought the first one was way under rated by a lot of people. It was one of the most beautiful games I've ever played and the sense of scale and scope was amazing! Is Kojima Studios still a part of the development? I think they had a huge impact on how the last game felt and would hate to see them left out.

First thing I screamed was "Hector!!" (curse of darkness) But reading all your comments makes me think otherwise. I shall wait and see who it is. I'm def gonna buy this.

I'm super excited about this game and all the other games getting trailers and such these days, but they are kinda ruining the fun of E3 for me. at this rate, there will be nothing new announced next week

  • inkyspot - June 1, 2012 3:34 a.m.

I am so excited by this. I didn't think the ending of the last one was bullshit, I found it intriguing. Whatever they are doing I am glad they are making the sequel.. Very Excite.

I didn't even think about that being Alucard, but I think you're totally right!! I was actually talking to my friends about this game like an hour ago, saying 'since you're most likely going to play as Dracula Gabriel and the Combat Cross is no more, what would the combat be like?' My conclusion was this trailer pretty much to the tee. Mist powers and demon power whippy stuff (okay, so my guesses were a little vague and no where near as epic, but still). Also, by the looks of it, I think LoS2 is going to be pre-LoS1 epilogue. I can't see modern-day battles with ironclad knights. This still has to be somewhere between 15th-18th century. Either way, this game is going to be the best game ever. Everything else means nothing until I play this game.
  • BladedFalcon - June 1, 2012 1:18 a.m.

He is definitely Alucard! I mean, it can be no one else! The iconic white silver long hair, long sword user, the armor... And the fact they purposely show him in that sideway shot as if saying. "LOOK! IF IT'S NOT CLEAR ENOUGH, THINK WHO ELSE STARRED IN AN ICONIC 2D ACTION GAME YEARS AGO!" And now, my mind is contemplating the possibility of the game letting you play as BOTH Dracula and ALUCARD.... And it immediately shuts down, because I simply can't process so much fucking awesome. And yeah, this does seem to not touch towards the modern day era just yet.... But I don't care, my biggest wish was for this game to have the balls to let you play as Dracula. And this trailer makes it absolutely clear that you will. It's all I wanted, and I am definitely getting it. I could not be any happier.

I always knew you were going to play as Dracula if the LoS story continued, which it was pretty obvious that it was. As for playing as Alucard, I won't shut out the possibility, but it doesn't seem likely. His look (from what you see) didn't resemble his typical dapper and elegant look. Now this is completely shooting in the dark here, but what if Alucard's character was completely different? He's always fought for humanity and against his father alongside the Belmonts (and friends), but what if in this new Belmont = Dracula universe, Alucard is a blood-lusting, vengeful, completely brutal dhampir (who could possibly be an acolyte of Satan?)? I am so totally geeking out right now.
  • BladedFalcon - June 1, 2012 2:30 a.m.

Well yes, but since playing as Dracula means that the whole tone and gameplay and feel of the game would change, I was afraid that they would wuss out and NOT continue where the LoS ending left of. I mean... Kinda like what Mirror of Faith is, essentially. Which appears to be a game focused on another Belmont, with more familiar game mechanics from the first LoS. So even if this was what it was expected, my mind is not any less blown by this trailer. The confirmation alone that indeed, we will break shit and Dracula, and that he will have these very bad ass powers to potentially even tackle colossal enemies one on one, is just mind boggling. And I disagree about Alucard. Look at his costume again, look at the shoulder-guard, the sword. Yes, it doesn't look as elegant, but there not a single doubt in my mind: It's him, it can't be anyone else. And I know this is a revamped universe, and you are right in that Alucard's whole back-story could be different. But in the context of that trailer, it makes perfect sense that he's there. He's come to confront his father because he's obviously lost the way. (As evidenced by his brutal murdering of an entire human army.) Of course, he very well could be evil, since it DOES seem unlikely that the story would have you fight against only good people, and flat out make you the villain.

Well there hasn't been any gamplay shown so I see little reason to get that excited. I didn't think that much of the previous game.
  • Stridefizzel - June 1, 2012 9:46 a.m.

    HELL YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • BladedFalcon - June 1, 2012 12:02 p.m.

You're obviously not a Castlevania fan, then. And the story of the first LoS was amazing, so this trailer is exciting because it follows up on the promise built by that ending. That, and really, even if it's not gameplay, the trailer itself is beautiful, excellently animated, with great art direction, and outstanding music.
  • gilgamesh310 - June 1, 2012 12:13 p.m.

Im not that much of a fan but I enjoyed Symphony of the Night a lot. I just played about a year ago. I didn't think much of the story in LoS. I just thoughr the epilogue was great. Im interested in LoS 2 but I will need to see more gameplay before I get excited. The gameplay in the first was pretty mediocre.
  • BladedFalcon - June 1, 2012 2:32 p.m.

Well, to each their own in this case. I liked the gameplay in LoS. Granted, it's not the best out there, but it had cool ideas, such as the light and dark magic combinations. Still, that's a moot point because with the unveiling that you will, in fact, play as Dracula, pretty sure the whole combat and gameplay is gonna change. At least in the mechanics since you're no longer gonna sue the combat cross or the original magic system.
