Star Wars: Episode VII gets an official title

Star Wars: Episode VII has unveiled an official title, with the new film to be released as Star Wars: The Force Awakens .

The announcement was made via the official Star Wars Twitter feed , which also confirmed that principle photography has now been completed on the forthcoming film.

While not quite as eye-catching as The Phantom Menace , there's something pleasingly back to basics about the new title, which also adds some personality to a project that has been referred to as Episode VII for what seems like an age.

Next milestone to count down to? The first official stills. Come on now J.J., show us a little something, eh?

Directed by J.J. Abrams and co-starring Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley and John Boyega alongside returning heroes Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford, Star Wars: The Force Awakens will open in the UK on 18 December 2015.
