Galactic Civilizations 3 adds multiplayer, available for early purchase

Stardock today announced Galactic Civilizations 3, the first title in the 4X space strategy series to feature an online multiplayer mode. Series fans can purchase the title now at its official website for early discounts and beta access.

The game will only run on 64-bit PCs, Stardock said in the announcement, a cut-off necessary for greater visual fidelity and on-screen action with larger maps and battles. A new ship builder and resource system will also provide additional avenues for seasoned 4X players to tweak and explore.

Stardock did not provide any more details about the oft-requested multiplayer mode, but you can expect more information to emerge in the coming months.

GalCiv 3 is available for pre-purchase for $40 with beta access, or you can pick up the game, alpha access, and all future DLC and expansions for free with the $100 Founder's Elite Edition.
