Sandra Bullock stars in new image from Alfonso Cuarns Gravity

Alfonso Cuarón’s forthcoming space-set saga, Gravity , has released a new image online featuring Sandra Bullock floating around her space shuttle.

The film will see Bullock play a medical engineer who becomes stranded in space alongside George Clooney’s grizzled old astronaut when their shuttle encounters technical difficulties.

The new image shows Bullock taking a leaf out of Ellen Ripley’s guide to space chic, sporting the kind of underwear-and-vest combo made famous by the aforementioned alien-slayer.

The anti-gravity effect also looks pretty cool, as it should do – according to Cuarón, it took some five years to perfect, with lengthy wire-work conducted before CGI could complete the effect.

“She’s confronted with the idea that Earth is so far away,” says Cuarón of the challenge faced by Bullock’s character. “She can see the whole Earth and she doesn’t belong to it. What is really scary for people is being lost or alone in the immensity of the void.”

Co-starring Eric Michels and the excellently-named Basher Savage, Gravity will open in the UK on 18 October 2013.
