Gemini X essentially crosses Mega Man with a Metroidvania and just a smidge of Metroid, and apparently it's all very Die Hard
Looks like a blast
Just revealed as part the Future Games Show's sister-show FGS Live From Los Angeles, Gemini X is a brand new metroidvania that's looking to blend the genre with the run-and-gun combat of games like Mega Man.
Playing as living robot Rook, you're looking to save humans and robots alike from a renegade liberation force known as the Heretechs who have taken over one of the 12 space colonies humanity fled to after Earth suffered catastrophic ecological disasters.
Apparently, it's all pretty Die Hard, according to Jason Canam, Creative Director, at Komi Games: "When you’ve got a group of awesome villain characters, it’s fun to have them inhabit a world that makes it all feel connected and working with the story. You’ll be moving through this space colony while the Heretechs are carrying out their plans. You’ll come across them, spy on them. And even mess with them, which is very Die Hard."
But in terms of gameplay, "the goal is to have tight and precise moment-to-moment gameplay of games like Mega Man X joining forces with the expansive, open world of a metroidvania," adds Canam.
The more you explore and complete optional missions, the better knowledge you gain over the Heretechs. Not only will this give you different ways to defeat them in fights, you'll also be able to utilise your knowledge of individuals to attack them mentally, exhausting them through battle so they're rendered defeating without having to kill them.
The non-lethal approach will be key to discovering some of the games multiple endings, and will even gain you allies in your attempt to expose the truth.
There's no release date yet for Gemini X, but you can wishlist it now on Steam.
